getting bedroom remodelled and contractor will fit new mountings for a wall mounted tv, not looking for anything cutting edge

40 inch or thereabouts, 4k smart TV, its for occasional viewing, will be flat onto the bed , so no strange viewing angles

which manufacturers are offering best value for a budget TV?

There's a list of TV manufacturer websites here. Do you really need 4k if you are looking for a budget model?

to be honest even the cheaper samsungs around the 400 quid mark it looks harder not to find a 4k tv!

Brands I would consider are LG, Panasonic and Samsung, in that order. They might not be the cheapest, but any additional cost will be worth it in terms of overall quality of user experience.
