New beta m-Audio firewire drivers for Leopard out

Good news, those FireWire drivers have been buggy since loooooong ago :)

Does anyone else here have a Firewire 410?

I can't seem to get mine to work, i have installed the new drivers, shut down, connected the cable, powered on and nothing happens.

Am I right in saying that I can power the 410 with the macbook through firewire? Thats what I thought I could do?

Hope anyone can help me.

Thanks guys/girls

Stew.

Does the MacBook have a 6-pin FireWire port? The 410 requires a 6 pin.

I'm not in to the standards of FireWire, but I believe the MacBook is FW400 only.

If it's FireWire 400 then the MacBook will work :)

Try plugging in like NickK said, it's probably having trouble sucking the juice if you're trying to use it off a battery.

Yes, the laptop is plugged in and has been for the past couple of days so it is completely charged and 100% battery health. I'm at university at the moment and forgot to bring the power adapter for the Firewire 410 but I assume it should work using the macbook.

This is really annoying me? Do you think there is much chance of the firewire port being faulty? Unfortunately I do not have anything else firewire or know anyone that does :p.

I will however be going to a genius bar in the next week so could ask there?

Anyone else able to help?

Thanks everyone.

Stew.

Ah, I know what it is..

You NEED the AC power adapter for the 410, although FireWire is capable of providing power, certain devices require their own supply to operate properly.

I have an external hard drive that does the same thing :)

That's odd - the FW Audiophile has a warning not to use the supplied AC power adaptor if it's plugged into a 6 pin FW socket.. the AC adaptor is only used for the small 4 pin socket.

Hmmm, perhaps they do.

I'm going on experiences based on a FW800 external HD, I haven't used a portable I/O since uni (circa 2006), so it's been a while.

If it works with the A/C then at least you can rule out the machine, which is probably for the best.

Ok yeah, unfortunately I don't have the plug with me as I left it at home

I won't be going home for a couple of week now (until easter) so won't be able to try it. When I get the plug though I will let you guys know.

Thanks a lot for your help

Stew.:p

Sounds like your power problem is similar to one I had with an old PreSonus Firebox interface, basically when Apple released the MBP/MB they altered the maximum startup current that a device could draw from the firewire ports (don't ask me why!).

Basically what it meant was that the PreSonus needed to get a little bit extra current to kick start itself as it were, so if I powered it up with the AC adapter initially I could then unplug that and it would run on the bus power.

Hope some of that makes sense :)
