New bike dilema!

Oh dear, I've bought a RSVR Mille and it's brilliant apart from 1 thing: I don't fit!

The bars are too far away from the seat and my toes barely touch the ground. :( Everything else about the bike is fantastic, but the discomfort of riding it means I've only taken it out 3-4 times in the month I've owned it.

So descision time! I have two choices:

  1. Spend £400 on a Variobar kit and new throttle cables & brake lines to bring the bars up and towards me.
  2. Sell the RSVR and buy something else.

I'm tilting towards selling the bike at the moment as I have no guarntee that the variobars will make the ride comfortable enough and it's a lot of money.

If I were to buy another bike I'm thinking of a Ducati Monster S4 or maybe a Suzuki SV1000. I definately want another twin, budget is about £3K. I'm thinking that a faired sports bike isn't really what I want these days though. Something for easy riding, touring up and down the UK and into Europe but still capable enough to go round corners without tying itself in knots. Open to things like the SV in cornering ability as I can upgrade the suspension to handle plenty well enough.

You bought a bike you never even sat on before?

Anyway, if you got a good deal and will make all your money back then yeah sell it, if not probably worth modding it.

I got a very good deal on it so should easily make more money back than I paid. When I took it for a test ride it seemd ok, a little tall maybe but nothing too bad. It's only after a couple of rides that I noticed the problems, I guess that new puirchase feeling overcame me in the test ride :(.

Sitting on a bike & riding one for a couple of hours are two completely different things.

OP.
Gutted for you mate as the RSV is a Lovely looking bike. Sounds like the Monster is the bike for you.

My first bike after passing my test was a 600 Monster so would love one with a bit more grunt!

It's a shame as the bike is a 2003 Colin Edwards Rep with the kit ECU, larger throttle bodies and Ohlins steering dampner and a few extra carbon fibre bits. I'm hoping I'll be able to get around £3500 for it so with a bit of luck a Monster S4 with the 916 motor in it should be in my price range.

i had an 05 mille and had similar problems and had variobars fitted and id make it make more comfortable but i still would describe it as the most comfy bike. which is why i sold it but still loved the bike

If your going to sell it, pop over to rsvzone.com, clubaprilia.net and bikersoracle.com/rsv/forum and stick it in their classifieds.

Being a CER, if you price it right it'll fly - especially so if you also have the stock parts (2 in 1 headers, boat anchor sized exhaust, standard chip).
