Hello all,

I'm after a cheap bike £200, I've nailed it down to two bikes one is made by muddy fox a name I remember as being quite good the other is a brand called boss.

Is any of these brands good??

Do you have a preference for flat or drop handlebars? Sounds like you'd be best served by a cheap road bike tbh, or a hybrid if you can't deal with drops (but they're better so you should if you can).

No real preference tbh, just cheap and cheerful, I don't mind if it has drop handlebars.

I had a quick look at both road bikes and hybrids, is falcon / British eagle a good ish brand?

Nope, Falcon are yet another brand selling bike-shaped objects that will make you want to throw it in the bin and get on the bus.

In all honesty, I think it's false economy to buy a new bike with a £200 budget - I would advise looking at second-hand options on sites like gumtree. A brand new bike for <=£200 is going to be extremely heavy, sluggish, badly put together and it'll rust or fall apart within weeks.

If you told us what area you're in, we could have a quick look if anything decent is available on Gumtree for your budget.

That would be fantastic thank you, I'm in Rochester, Kent.

For a couple of miles every day you could get away with pretty much anything, but you might as well get something that's going to be reliable and not going to cause you issues every few weeks. You also might as well get something that can hold up well if you want to take it on a longer ride for whatever reason. There are some not terrible hybrids for around this price, for example if you can stretch to something like this;

or maybe;

I like the bikes from halfords might have to take a drive down to the local store and have a look, the 20% off atm is tempting.

Those two Halfords bikes would do the trick IMHO. I'd have one of those over a Boss or Muddy Fox, both of which are just labels attached to generic catalogue tat bikes.
