Right, Unfortunately back in April I had an accident on my bike and sadly my ER6f didn't make it :( I'm pretty sure its happy up in Motorbike heaven... but now I am recovered from my injuries (Left forearm hairline fracture by my elbow and Scaphoid fracture in my left wrist) its time for me to get back on a bike..

Now the particulars...... I will be doing roughly 18-19k a year on the bike (75 mile a day + pleasure miles) and do not really want more than a 650/700 due to only having had my licence for a year and do not want the temptation just yet. I have roughly £4k to spend and I'd like it to be about to do about 140-150 mile per tank (That way I can fill up every 2 days)

Now to rule a few bikes out... I've had an SV650 and It was OK but would like to try something different. Last bike was a Kawasaki ER6f, Great bike in terms of mileage but was just boring as hell and the buzzing from the fairings nearly drove me to commit murder. I was eyeing up one of the newer model Hornets which I can get for roughly my budget (maybe a little over) and I would love a Street Triple but they are a tad more than I want to pay at the moment... Oh and a Fazer.... nope :( Just cannot bring myself to get one.

Sorry If I have missed anything out.... any help is appreciated.

£4k will get you a Street Triple, there's plenty available for that sorta money. If you don't want more than a 600 because of the temptation then maybe don't get a Street Triple as they're the sort of bike that makes you do naughty things. :D

The Fazer is a good bike too (I have an FZ6 myself) but it's not £4k good so there's no point spending that sort of money on an FZ, just spend £2k(ish) and pocket the change.

If it was my money then it would definitely be the Street Triple,in fact it's almost certain that's what the FZ replacement will be.

Hmmmmmmm I've just not been able to find one for less than 4.5k and even those are few and far between... Most seem to be around the 5 to 6k mark :-(

I went from the ER6f to the Versys and it's a far better bike for what I do. Mine will do 200+ miles to a tank, the best I had from a tank full was 58 mpg (248 miles to the tank) and I average around 52 mpg (217 miles per tank).

I have no buzzing on mine and it does everything I ask of it.

I had not, In all honesty I have been looking at naked bikes as I just think they look nicer. I'll take a gander at those :)

Only reason I suggested is you mentioned the miles you do, I have been doing 50miles a day on my er-6n and after a year of it I have gotten feed up with wind so I am picking up a new GSX650F tomorrow, desperate for a screen and fairing

Yeah that is one thing I have enjoyed about having the er6f was that it was fully faired... Hmmmmmmm choices choices...

Guess I should rephrase... I live in Luton so there are none around the 4k mark that are less than 100 mile away

I love the look of naked bikes and love the look of the triple but after going on a tour with my mates and they are on things like GS1200 and CBF1000, and i'm getting blown about on the 6n I had to get a fairing

But that is me, some people can live without a screen all my commuting is motorway so it gets a bit much after awhile

Roughly half my commute is motorway, I'd love to get a decent test ride out on a bike down a stretch of motorway but not had the chance yet :-(

test ride them, just need to take both parts of you licence and book some bikes to ride.

First thing I did on my test rides was straight on the motorway to see how they felt

Yeah I haven't been very good with test rides. My first bike I bought was about 3 hours after passing my test so I was litterally just like "TAKE MA MONEH AND GIVE!!!" and the second bike I took it for a reasonable ride but the motorway was about half hour away and would have felt bad taking it out for an extensive test ride as it was on a Sunday. Silly of me on both occasions but you live and you learn.

i have a kawasaki z750r and i absolutely love it!

i'd recommend that over a triumph street triple any day of the week (i've owned a 58 plate stree triple)

i put £15 in the task and it never returns less than 120 miles, and that's a combination of normal riding and super fun happy time riding :D
might be pretty hard to get the 'R' version for 4k but you could definitely get a mint standard example for that.

I am really apprehensive about buying bikes and well anything over £100 off of ebay.....Don't ask me why I just am.

a guy at works travels 120 miles a day on his bike
its a triumph st 1050 somthign or other with the single sided swing arm.. tells u mpg and all that kinda stuff i dnt care about ( r1 and cbr owner)

yeah but you don't need to buy off ebay lol? i was just giving examples.
you don't have to pay for it over ebay. go and look at the bikes first and that way it's no different to biketrader. 9 times out of 10 if you look for a bike on biketrader it's pretty much guaranteed to be on ebay too, i do it with my cars/bikes. stick it on both so more people get to see it. i bought my current z750r via a kawasaki dealership that had it advertised on ebay. (dave fox motorcycles) so long as you're not a pleb buying off ebay is absolutely fine lol.
