Had another new spoke fitted. Wheels are 3yrs old and done a few thousand miles. They are Giant SR2.

I'm looking at fulcrum 7 @ 1760g per pair.

Would these be much of an improvement?

How much do SR2 wheels weigh?

Whatare you doing to break/bend spokes? I dont even manage it on the DH bike.
If you are going through spokes then I think you need to think about investing in a decent wheelset might be a good investment in the long run.

No idea - just English roads I think and lot of miles. Thinking a more reliable, stronger but ultimately lighter wheelset.

I've no idea how much your current wheels weigh... Best bet is to take them off and weigh them!

I may be able to find a post in the big road thread with details of how much my Open Sport/Tiagra wheels weigh, but it would mean a bit of digging... Looking back it looks like somewhere around 1900g, I think.

Wiggle lists the Fulcrum 7s as weighing 1849g without skewers, which is a bit more than your 1760g. However, with fewer spokes, the rim is likely to be where the weight is, which isn't great news on a wheelset like that.

But I want lighter as well as stronger if I'm paying out?
Do the SR2's weigh about 2kg and the fulcrum 7 1760g?

Chose one of the above if you're on a budget :) I'd recommend campy khamsins which will be a bit lighter than your current set - 250-350g at guess.. And will last for ages! I've had a set for ~5.5k miles and not a single spoke went poof and they're as true as they were on day one.. And that's a massive thing for someone like me who randomly manages to bust every wheel set I get access to.. ;) they're around 120.

Also remember that tyres add a lot of weight.. If you've got a lighter pair for let's say 500g/pair you'll save quite a bit compared to a pair that weights 700-800g

2014 are 1760g. :)

Ah, right.

And yeah, GP4000S are well rated.

But for Shimano gearsets (Tiagra) I'd have to add 45g apparently. So 1805g.

Looking on internet the SR2 are 2100g?

These were minus tyes/skwers/cassette:-
914g for front.
1150gfor rear.

This is going off what people post on internet.

rough case - 259g lighter

Giant don't seem to post wheel weights - all I see are people saying they are heavy wheels!

Fulcrum 5 is even lighter!

753g+892g = 1645g + 45g(?) = 1690 = 374 lighter

But are Fulcrum 5's reliable would you say?

How often do you have to completely rebuilt the wheels? I've never rebuilt a wheel and I've had a bike since 2011 and done 1000-3000 few thousand miles a year roughly at most.

Mavic Aksium don't seem to be very good according to reviews and things on here?

Von Helmet - why go for handbuilt though? Everybody wants the same from a wheel don't they? Lighter, faster, reliable, better?

5's are good wheels :) I do try to avoid cheaper shimano's and once my current set fails I'll replace them with either handbuilds or campy zonda's.

handbuilds are good because any shop can service them and you can spec the components you want.

Can't fit Campy Zondas as I have Tiagra groupset.

Looks like Fulcrum 7's although now I'm not sure.

Made the mistake of looking at carbon wheels which are about £4k but are about 1100g pair! lol

you can if you get them with shimano freehub :)

I'm pretty sure you can get zondas with a shimano freehub. Grudas has them on his Triban 3 iirc.

I have Khamsins.. which are great for the price! as said above 5k+ miles on harsh roads and they're still as true as they were on day one! and I ride through winter, rain etc.. I have worn the rim now to a point where it needs replacing :) but that's normal with every wheelset.
