I am in the process of RMAing my Asus stricker 2 board So now need to ge a new board I have

Q6600 pro 2.4Ghz garanteed to run @ 3.0Ghz
4 GB Dominator 8500 memory 1066
and 9600 GT Graphix
Antec Phantom 500W PSU

I can spend upto £200 I don't want to go with Nvidia as they seem to be having a number of problems with their chipsets

thanks

Mike

Ok gone for the Rampage x48

now to decide what card to use I have the Zotac 9600 AMP edition or 8800 GTX extreme edition I was going to send the 8800 back but I am open to suggestions

There is no issue with the X48 boards.

Its just that they both support the 1600mhz Intel Chips, DDR2 1200Mhz and they both have the same ICH9R chipsets.

The X48 just seem like overkill in price comparison tbh. All you are paying for is maybe a little more cooling solution on the board but with the right case flow, you do not need all of that.

3DMarks very low results

ok with everything set to auto except FSB set to 333 = 3Ghz

I get

4639
3DMarks

what this all about I should have kept my D 950 lol

Something seriously wrong there - you sure you have installed all your drivers? That score is so low I can't think of anything else that would explain it... unless you left orthos running while running 3d mark?

i notice that it says, benchmark settings not default. try running 3dmark06 at the default res of 1280x1024, disable aa/af and set all in the nvidia control panel to performance, also check that your pcie lane is set at 16x

This is quite interesting - I've just put a second-hand 8800 GTX onto a P35-DQ6 and it only scores 4354 in 3DMark 06. I'm running 64-bit Vista.

I assumed the card was dodgy, but now I think it's a driver issue.

any idea where I would find the 16x setting in bios ? I also noted 3DMark only seems to use on cpu rather than utilising 4 cores and it uses DirectX9 not 10 ?

I tried to run 3DMark after setting mem to 1066 and the cpu still running @ 3G FSB 333

spent all morning installing apps watching movies palying games etc all fine Vista marks all 5.9
running like a dream all the newest drivers apart from nvidia

Driver 7.15.11.6932 Driver date 09/01/2008
dl from XFX website :)

tried to run 3DMark and system just powered off no BSOD as it started to load second test

in Bios

Temps

CPU 38
MB 35
NB 48
SB 45

Volt

CPU 1.336
PLL 1.568
FSB 1.344
DRAM 2.176
NB 1.344
SB 1.072
SB 1.5 1.520
12V 11.928

im afraid not as im not familair with your particular motherboard and bios, suggest you download gpuz http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/SysInfo/GPU-Z/
this will enable you to check the speed of the pcie lane.

This is running PCI-E x16 @ x1 I am asuming the x1 is the number of cards ? and not the speed
that shows that the pcie is running @x1 where it should be saying pciex16 @16x, so you need to set it to 16x, what board are you using by the way.

Right! After much messing about, I've fixed mine by uninstalling the card in device manager, and removing the drivers, then re-installing when the machine restarts. Took about 15 minutes in total.

mine crashes as soon as I try to run 3DMark using Nvidia Drv 169.25

can play games etc fine just when trying to run 3dM PI 1mb 17 sec

Hmm, I dont know, sounds kinda similar to the problem I have... Specs in Sig..

I had a 7950GX2, got just shy of 10k in 3dmark in XP PRO..Upgraded too Vista 64..Seemed ok, never ran any benchmarks untill I got my new 8800GTX OC2..Ran first with 7950 got something like 4k..Put the new card in, get scores just over 3k...I've not noticed any boost in performance either in Cod4 or crysis..PCI-E is set to 16x...

Contemplating buying a new board anyway..But reading this thread it seems more like vista maybe..??

PSU is a enermax 850w.
