HI guys after all sorts of nastiness with my existing motherboard I managed to get hold of another board its an ASUS p67 B3 Revision.

Its not the newest board anymore but its brand new and was quite cheap. I was going to fit a I7 2700k to it but noticed this needs a bios flash (as does an ivy bridge should I decide to do that instead).

My question is, is it possible to fire this board up and flash the bios either without a cpu present, OR failing that if I purchase a cpu and plug it in and the bios isn't compatible (fairly likely) then will it be functional enough to flash the board from usb Or failing that am I going to need to purchase an eeprom with the correct bios on it,and if so is that even worth the hasstle.

Regards

you will need to sort a supported CPU i suggest trying for a second hand one or borrow a mates if they are kind enough to rip apart their machine for you.

once you have a supported CPU flash the bios and install your I7 in and sell / return the old CPU :)

Crap I thought so.. thanks for confirming.

you can pull out the bios chip:D

then order one off fleabay pre flashed with the latest bios(ask them to flash it) then plop it in and away you go,roughly a tenner last time I checked

Went for the 2600k which doesn't have the issue and to be honest will clock up to what I want it to anyway. 2700k seemed a bit pointless for the tiny bit of extra speed and no hasstle with that :)
