New Board?

I’ve been thinking about upgrading my current HDD to ssd but when i realised that my mb is sata 2 this has put the dampers on things as I have read that this will cut the performance by half which defeats the object a bit.
Because funds are limited, the only option open would for me would be to find a sata 3 mb that can utilise my existing CPU and ram. My existing board is the MSI (micro star) 760GM-P23 FX. Does anyone know of a board that meets this requirement?

Thanks for that. I didn't known that was an option that was open to me. Is there a particular type that I should go for, I noticed in the wording in your link PCI express, but the link goes to 404 error.

Depending on your use case, SATAII would be fine, as the biggest benefits from going to an SSD (for daily tasks anyway) is from the improved random read times, and not from the bandwidth.

Just had a look at the spec for my board, regarding PCI slots it states:Number of Total Expansion Slots: 3 Number of PCI Slots: 1 PCI Express Standard: PCI Express 2.0 Total Number of PCI Express Slots: 2 Number of PCI Express x16 Slots.

I'm not sure that I understand the technicalities, which one should I be using?

Thanks again

I suggest; skip the expansion card for now, plug the SSD straight into your motherboard and give it a go, because you will get the majority of what you want with just that.
