Hi all.

My mum got a free new combi last year 18th june and its leaking from a pipe under the boiler she said its a bad joint thats causing it.

She has 2 yr warranty with logic for the boiler.

She had 1 yr with 0800repair but they said shes out of warranty. (its been like this for a few weeks she said but shes been in hospital twice and checkups lately for cancer) so hadnt had time to sort it.

I rang 0800repair on behalf of my mum and asked about it they said it will cost 60 to come out, not including parts and 30 quid per every extra 30 mins. Logic wouldnt fix it they said.

Surely a new boiler just gone 1 year old should have lasted longer than this especially for a joint on a copper pipe. Shouldnt it?

Where does she stand, she thinks they should fix it as it shouldnt have broke this early on. £60 is a lot for a pensioner too.

Oh she said pressure is a bit low too.

pressure will drop surely if it's leaking?
60 for a callout is a joke, its clear that the warranty is worth jack.

Just get a local plumber round for a quote and be done with it.

Under which scheme was it supplied?
There is a possibility that if the scheme found out the warranties are not being upheld they may think twice about using these installers again.

That green scheme i think it was where pensioners with pension credit can get it and boiler was over 7 years old or somit.

She rang Ideal and they said they can do it but its funny 0800repair said they wouldnt, they coming on wed sometime. Lets hope they will do it for free tho they are doing a service at the same time and thats 60 quid which i presume is average for a service check.

Just the thing about 1 year warranty for install and then 2 yr with the boiler manufacturer, seems low as ud think ud get 5-10 yr warranties with things expensive like these.

Sure its probably slightly out of warranty for the installers but circumstances prevented it being addressed due to mum having breast cancer tests and surgerys the past month and a bit so she couldnt and shouldnt have had to deal with that when she should concentrate on getting better. She said it was leaking a few weeks ago when it would have been under the installers warranty just that she reported it after and they wouldnt do it for free and probably their fault cos of a faulty solder joint is just ...

Is it part of the boiler or external pipework ?

Its hard enough getting these 'green' companies back in for snagging nevermind out of warranty work.

Not confident in tackling it yourself ?
If its a water pipe external to the boiler its £15 in bits ( blow torch, flux, wire wool and a yorkshire fitting ) and 20 minutes on youtube learning to solder/drain a system.

Once you have the gear its a handy skill to have.
