So I was musing about buying a NC750x DCT the other week, and I've been boring and bought one!

As I said, my usage it's pretty much solely commuting, 54miles a day on motorway and heavy city centre traffic hence me considering the above bike.

Managed to pick up a 2017 NC750x DCT with 3,200 on the clock from a Triumph dealer in Manchester last Saturday. I didn't have much time on the weekend to play so just done the two days commuting so far.

Obviously I was a little apprehensive about the bike as it really is an odd bike with the low reving engine and the auto box so completely different from my previous but it really does work well.

Adventure style so it's nice and comfortable with good visibility. Flash colour LCD dash with all the info you can need.

It's obviously not a rocketship with 54bhp but it does have a decent amount of torque and peak is very low down so around town it's fine.

The gearbox... Very, interesting. Pottering around town it's flawless. It has a basic D mode which tries to get you in 6th as fast as possible which is fine. Then S mode with three levels. I've only really had it in level 3 as why wouldn't you. This definitely makes it more lively. You can also have it in manual mode and shift up and down with buttons on the left handle which works well but the low limiter takes some getting used too.

Biggest annoyance is when filtering or in very slow traffic you want to keep it in first really for the control, it won't do this unless in manual, switching between modes is easy luckily. Also not having a clutch mean ultra slow manuouvers between cars is hard as you can slip the clutch.

Bar those two points I'm really enjoying it. It's very relaxed and easy which is want I like. Fuel economy which was one of the main reasons for the bike is as reported brilliant. Around town it's in the 90's and on the motorways it's still 80+. You have to try really hard not to average less than 75mpg. New challenge...

Anyway some pics

Weird "frunk". Kind of useful but I'm fitting a givi rack for my topbox, I need it for my laptop etc.

Anyway it's not an exciting bike no, but a bit different and suits my needs for now. I will want more power I'm sure. I'd love to try the DCT box on the Africa Twin or especially the VFR1200! I'd urge everyone to give it a go, 90% of the time it's perfect. Trips to the ring, probably not...

Lovely bike. I’m looking at one myself also for commuting.

Please keep this thread updated on your experiences, I’d be looking to buy one before September!

Cheers, it's also got a bizarre handbrake but I've no idea why as it doesn't creep like a car auto.

Really no idea why it has it, it's not small either.

They are perfect as a commuting tool, you've got the LED headlight too which is a must - good headlights on a commuting bike are a requirement!

Solid bike, built for a purpose and fulfills it very well, even has storage space. Great purchase imo, my only concern would be the DCT but then I've never trusted them, even since they first came out on the MK4 R32 Golf.

I really like that. Currently riding a 47bhp bike at the moment with not a lot of grunt, and the motorway is tedious. Every time I look down at the speedo, the bike's crept down 5mph. It's like it's trying to do it while I'm not looking. In contrast, my RF900 is trying to creep up while I'm not paying attention! The extra 7 horses would make it more comfy I'll bet.

Yer that was a concern especially the mileage I'm putting on it. I think the stresses are lower than that as a car. Plus this box is used in much more powerful Africa Twin & VFR1200 bikes so can't be much of a concern for honda. It's 8 year old technology now so hopefully most of the gremlins have been worked out.

It really does suit the engine though, I wouldn't want this engine without it. Akin to a diesel car with the small powerband.

Also the garage I bought it from, Youles Manchester, offer a lifetime warranty on the engine and gearbox so long as they service it, so they're confident enough! Plus they're a triumph dealer which is odd.

Same for me in Stratford. My Honda is serviced by Triumph guys. It's primarily a Triumph dealer with a little Honda bit tacked on the side. Works for me considering one of my bikes is a Honda and the other a Triumph!

Also 8k service intervals as the engine is basically a car engine. Beats changing the oil every 4 months anyway!

I wasn't going to touch the bike really bar fitting my givi rack but... that tail and dinner plate number plate are doing my head in. But then the indicators would look even bigger...

Very tempted to get one of these - just not sure as I've short legs!

DCT sounds great for commuting.

It really is good. Manual mode is very good for filtering the more I use it. And fun dare I say it...

How short? I'm only 5' 8" with 29" legs and it's fine for me. I can't flat foot it obviously but I don't think I'll ever be able to flat foot a bike, bar a grom :p

Also pulling up to some long lights and being able to take both hands off the bars straight away without doing the neutral foot shuffle and then just ride off again is amazing :p
