Bit of a strange one really, been having problems with the general front end handling of the ST and had been told it was due to worn trailing arm bush. Today a friend [mechanic] fitted my brake pads using his garage's ramp. Checked out all the bushes, suspension, drive shafts everything [as he felt the stability issue prior to fitting the pads] and could find nothing out of the ordinary.

Anyway,he raised the car on the lift and fitted the pads, dropped it back down and took it out for a spin, stability issues gone?

Is it possible something had been dislodged when i had the car up on my trolley jack and raising the whole car somehow it fell back into place? I'm totally stumped although very happy at the same time.

It would tend to compress more on the drivers side than the passenger side under braking, its hard to explain exactly what it felt like other than very similar to how the ClioSport i once ha felt when one of the ball joints gave out. Wheel felt as if it was going in which direction it wanted and not where you wanted ,quite often it felt as if the wheel was about to fall off, it got so bad sometimes i would stop and check the nuts were tight [the cars not mine :) ]

pad stuck in the guides perhaps as you say it was uneven braking pressure. I must admit removing, cleaning and re-fitting pads would have been my first thought.

Not quite sure by your description, but maybe even a couple of nuts loose? Did you get any vibration at high speed?

Yes mainly at about 70 mph, the vagueness in steering etc was a constant though.
