BT are launching an overhaul of their entertainment packages (long overdue!) on Friday and the packs / prices have just been leaked.

pros of the system: you can access all services in one place (now tv, Netflix, prime, free view and catchup services)

cons: in order to get the sky channels in the EPG (thus recordable) and not via the App your stuck paying the default prices set by BT rather then being able to use discounted now tv passes.

Entertainment - £10/month
Now TV entertainment channels available via EPG and recordable alongside Now TV box sets.

Big Entertainment - £20/Month
Now TV entertainment channels available via EPG and recordable alongside now TV box sets and Sky Cinema via Now TV App

Sport - £15/Month
All 4 BT Sport channels

Big Sport - £40/Month
Now TV Entertainment channels and all Sky Sports channels available via EPG and recordable, alongside Now TV Box sets, Now TV Cinema and all 4 BT Sport channels.

VIP - £60/Month
All of the above combined alongside Bt Sport now being in 4K.

The above can be topped up with the following addons on a 30 day contract:

  • NOW TV Sky Sports Pass (From £9.99. Daily, weekly and monthly passes available)
  • NOW TV Sky Cinema Pass (£11.99 pm)
  • NOW TV Entertainment Pass (£8.99 pm)
  • BT Sport (£15 pm)
  • BT TV Kids (£5 pm)
  • HD & 4K (£5 pm)
  • Amazon Prime Video (Six months on us*, then £5.99 pm)
  • Netflix (from £5.99 pm)
  • NOW TV Kids (£3.99 pm)
  • NOW TV hayu (£3.99 pm)
  • NOW TV Boost (£3 pm)

It’s more expensive then my sky package at the moment and doesn’t offer anything extra but could be decent alternative when 12mths down the line with some deals?

So I have had BT TV for years as I was a BT trialist getting the TV service for free. I have my own Netflix account which I can use via BT TV. I have my own Amazon account which I can watch via BT TV. They are offering one fee to watch all so the other choice is to pay BT for the Netflix/Amazon account. Same with NowTV I have my own account and I`m currently on Sky Sports (£20 per month) and Sky Entertainment (£15 for six months) so the advantage is you can either pay BT for NowTV service or you can shop around and get one of the discounted passes for a lot less. Been waiting for this for some time.

My BT boxes updated in the week and I tried the NowTV app this morning and it was all there Sky One, Sports etc. Moving through the menus were a little sluggish no where near as responsive as my NowTV 4k Smart box. Not yet watched any of the channels to compare with my stand alone Nowtv Box.

Note the price of Netflix, NowTV etc is the same price you would pay if you bought it direct off Netflix, NowTV etc so with the latter it pays to look round for cheaper discounted passes. Basically you buy a pass of a well known auction site, enter the code on your account and it activates whatever you paid for.

NowTV dont do "retention" its not a yearly contract its a pay as you go ? Are you mixing this up with Sky ? (I know they own NowTV but its pay as you go!) I have found if I cancel my Sky Sports when it goes back to £33 they offer me the £20 for 3 months deal again though so maybe you meant that. However this is all via the website you dont speak to anyone with NowTV. You just click accept and you get all Sky Sports for £20 a month again.

yes a new HDR capable box is to be launched later this year to replace the existing 4k BT Box. Also extra TV boxes only cost £5 per month.

What is good with this is before if you got Sky Sports through BT TV you could only have it if you had one box. You couldnt have Sky Sports with two BT boxes because of the contract between BT and Sky.

The actual service delivery to me wont be much different but its a step closer to one box does all.
Reading the terms and conditions - if you don’t buy the packs through BT then you don’t get the Channels in the EPG so need to use the app

Yeah I was wondering about that as you are meant to be able to record and you cant record in the app. So only reason to have NowTV with BT would be to be able to record the Sky channels. Although I've been reading other peoples experiences and apparently the channels via the EPG are not as good as via the NowTV app quality wise !!

One thing it did when I transferred my TV to the new package it said it wanted to transfer my passes from NowTV to BT and they would expire which is not what I wanted so I've kept my NowTV account seperate, same as I do with Netflix and Amazon. Come September time when by BT Broadband contract is up I have no ties with BT anymore so I could shop around for a better deal. Makes you laugh though I`m a long standing BT customer and I pay £48 for Fibre yet when I click on the offers I get the same I`m on now (but they blurb makes it sound like an upgrade) for £51.99 or pay £60.99 for same plus the Wifi Discs! Oh wow enticing !
Know the feeling. I’m on one of their legacy fibre packages which includes separate line rental, I’m paying £19 more then their worst new customer deal ... they should be calling me to discuss so let’s see /off topic
