Hi guys,
I'm about to build a new PC for my dad but need a little bit of help please. The intended use is mostly word processing and excel but with a little bit of light gaming on the side.

-Storage is not too much of an issue so I have left a 128gb SSD for speed.
-The spec does not have a case, because the intended one (bit fenix merc alpha or beta) is currently out of stock. Can anyone suggest a case that is not vulgar (plain preferably), allows cable routing and approximately £30?
-I do not require an OS or other peripherals
-Not sure about the graphics card, was going to go for a 6850 but OCUK dont seem to sell the cheaper ones anymore. Dont want to be spending more than that though.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much

That does look good and if the PC was for myself I would go for it, but my dad doesn't do any serious gaming so it will not really be necessary. He is more of the total war / strategy type. Anything roundabout the £80 mark?

(btw, he is paying 500 pounds and for some bizarre reason I said i will pay anything extra over 500, sorry for being stingy)

The Intel Pentium is a good little CPU:

AMD option and use inbuilt GPU which is fairly reasonable:

Could try and find a 6850 for around £80, I bought mine for £76 on special offer. A 6850 would be more powerful than a GT 640 or a 7750.

Yeah I was going for that, OCUK had a couple good looking ones but they dont sell them anymore :( I would prefer to stick with OCUK but if performance would really benefit I could go elsewhere...

Yeah, for around the £80 mark I can't really think of anything better. There'll be more options if you buy used, but for a new card for £80 I don't think you can get better performance. My 6850 is soon to be going into a friends computer though as my 7950 arrives today.

Ooh lucky you with a new graphics card :P I do buy used stuff fairly often but it does seem to break on me :( I would like the comfort of a warranty. At £90 is it worth getting a 6850? Thats the best I can find.

Yeah, I kind of went of a spending spree and ended up buying a 7950 TF3, a Samsung 830 128Gb and some new Ram :). For £90 I can't really think of anything better performing, which model was it?

Nice :) Thats one thing that attracts me to desktops. You can constantly upgrade and add things, I'm sat here on my macbook and the most that I have done is upgrade RAM to 8gb. Thats all that can be done. But yeah the model is the XFX one?

Ahh I think I know the site you mean, £88 I'm guessing? :) Yeah, I'd say that is most likely the best for the price.

Okay thank you very much. Yeah that is right, I did not want to post a link as it could be considered a competitor. Good luck with your upgrade and thanks for the help.

Thanks, I will probably go for the above build, but with a 6850. I like the look of the case by the way and with the extra fan it should run cool. One thing, the SSD you suggested, is it better than the m4? and what is Norton Ghost? Thank you

I think it's faster than the M4, Norton Ghost is used to clone data from one HDD to the SSD. I've just ordered one myself :)
