A mate is looking to upgrade his old 9th gen Intel build, 9700k I think, 4070 Super.

Is it worth doing with the price of memory at the minute, and if so, what would people recommend?

I'll get more info on the system next time I speak to him, but thought I'd ask on here for now. Thanks.

What is the PC being used for primarily?

If gaming, yes there would be some uplift to a new CPU, but the benefit would depend on the game(s) being played and the resolution.

This gives an idea (5070 and 4070 Super should perform similar, same with the 10600K and 9700K):

Doing both CPU+GPU is not really possible for that budget right now, unless he sticks with the existing DDR4 and goes for Intel 12th-14th gen (used 13th-14th gen parts not recommended due to potential for degradation).

Thanks for the reply, it'll be used 90% for gaming at 1440P, he seems to think the CPU is starting to struggle with newer games, and was wondering what sort of upgrade would be possible.

Definitely go for a cpu upgrade, ram prices notwithstanding.
A well-priced 7800x3d or a 9800x3d is a massive boost and will unshackle the 4070 super.
(I have a 7800x3d + 4070 super as my secondary pc )
