Hi

First of - all the good advice on this site convinced me to try a self build myself.

I purchased the following
1GB PALIT GTX460 SONIC
Intel Core i5 760 2.8G s1156
CORSAIR 600W CMPSU-600CX PSU
Asus P7H55-M/USB3
4GB 2x2G CMX4GX3M2A1600C9 XMP
Antec Three Hundred
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2 CPU Cooler

And put it all together - no problems everything fitted ok. Powered it on and all the fans started up + no smoke!

The problem is I cant get it to display anything on the monitor (I have tried 2) and there just no output.

I have tried all the video outputs avail but no diff

My only thought is that the BIOS is set to use the onboard graphics rather than the graphics card

Any help would be much appreciated

Just dbl check all your connections first
Dont mean to sound patronising but a lot of people who do first time builds miss off a couple of power connectors, often the ones directly to the gfx card and the additional 4/8 pin connector for the CPU
Check the system build guide by greywolf at top of the page if youre not sure what Im talking about
If youve checked these and theyre attached and still no joy, post back

I have double checked the power connection and all look ok (2 power ones to mobo and two to the gfx)
Hope mobo not shorting - all brass support pegs in correct holes
I have the 2 mem chips in the same channel - I will try just i 2gb chip tonight when I get home
Thanks for all your help

I'm still having probs

I checked all the connections
I removed the memory
I put just one mem chip back
removed all connections from the mobo that weren't essential

Connected a speaker to the mobo to see if there was any post message

All I get is the fans start and nothing else - no video, no beeps

Any suggestions would be most appreciated

try rig outside case, see if it posts, in case there is any contact between mobo and case you cant see
if still no joy then remove ALL components and power on just mobo/psu, you should get error beeps associated with no cpu, if you do good you can start adding components one at a time, if you dont then its either faulty mobo or psu, hard to tell which without another to try
if you do get no cpu beeps, add cpu n try again, should then get no RAM beeps, if you do add RAM, keep going adding components one by one, soon as you get no beeps you kow its last component added that was faulty

Just rigged the components outside the case

How terrifying was that - so worried that I was going to fry something

Connected the power LED to the speaker output to get the POST messages

Worked through adding bits that POST said were missing and I now have video output from the GTX card

Just need to build it back in the case now and hope it all still works

Thanks to everyone for your help

put it all back in the case and same prob, unscrewed it and put anti static under the board and all was well
So def shorting on case - does anyone have any suggestion on how to find/stop the short

Ta

are you sure you are doing the stand offs properly?.

I only ask cos a mate of mine totally screwed it up when he tried to build his first

Its very hard to short out usually unless something is badly not right.

Im pretty sure its shorting out on the case

I have put it all back together with a sheet of antistatic between the case ond the mobo , held in place by the risers and system POSTs as expected.

Not sure if its sensible to leave it there or not - any thoughts ?

If I need to remove the anti static then some suggestions on what to do next would be much appreciated

Thanks a lot
