Hi everyone,
I am in the process of building a new computer, and over the past few weeks have been sapping up infomation from your posts on this forum. Before I take the plunge on buying my new computer I thought I would post my spec and see if I cant get some advice to see if its all going to work okey and if there is anything you would tweak on it.
Spec
Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X5D (Socket 1366) - OEM PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) Socket LGA1366 - OEM
Noctua NH-U12P SE1366 CPU Cooler ( Socket LGA1366)
OCZ 6GB 1800MHz DDR3 PC3-14400 (3 x 2GB) Reaper Low Voltage Tri-Channel Kit
Powercolor ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express - Retail - I was going to go for the GTX 295 but a) it seems to be a bit of overkill and b) it is 100- 150 quid more expensive. I do have a hannspree 27″ monitor that has a pretty hefty resolution on it but I just cannot justify spending so much on a graphics card. I was also thinking what would give a better performance. 2 x ATI HD 4870 in crossfire or 1 x ATI HD 4870 x2 on its own. In theory it would seem like there is not much performance difference between the two but 2 x ATI HD 4870 are cheaper.
Note: I have a Hanns.G HG281D 28″ Wide screen LCD Monitor as my main monitor
Asus Xonar D2X 7.1 PCI-Express Sound Card - I may have gone completely overkill here but I really want a good sound card as I love listening to music though some decent speakers (yet to buy). This seems to be a really good sound card from reviews but I am not sure if I am spending too much on this and if I could go for a lower Xonar model.
Corsair 850W ATX SLI Compliant Powersupply
Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB Sata2 32MB Cache - OEM - Data Drive
Samsung MLC SSD 64GB x 2 - RAID 0 - OS drive
LG GGW-H20L Blu-Ray Rewriter & HD-DVD ROM Serial ATA Drive - retail
Antec 900-2 Black Case
Peripherals
I would like a keyboard and mouse for gaming. I would like them both to be really quite high quality as it is soo important to have a nice keyboard and mouse. Have selected the Logitech MX Revolution Advanced Cordless Mousebut am having problems selecting a nice gaming keyboard and a good mouse pad. Can anyone recommend one? Thought about the logitech G15 Gaming keyboard, it seems to have a good dedicated following online.
A screenshot of my basket can be found here
Does anyone have any suggestions for me on this build? Its been a long time since I have made my own computer and I'm rather rusty so your help is greatly appreciated.
