Hi all,

Looking at upgrading my 3 and half year old pc this summer :)

am very interested in the price to performance ratio of the GTX 1070 from reading forums etc...

so my question is it worth getting the 1070 in sli or just go for 1 1080? i play on a 1440p monitor

And do you think a budget of 2k - 2.5k will be enough or should i go for couple of 980ti's?

Any suggestions will be most appreciated

current specs are

i7 3770k OC to 4.6gz
8gb ram
GTX 980 4bg
128 SSD
1TB

im looking at

i7 5820 or 5830? with 32gb ram bigger SSD wont need keyboard mouse or monitor :)

thanks

You still have a very good setup. Are you struggling with framerates on anything ?

What make/model power supply do you have ?

Yeah the setup is great on my smaller 1080p monitor but i find on my main 1440p monitor the fps is starting to struggle on recent games i have a 850w gold series

i generally like to upgrade my pc every 3 or 4 years to future proof myself for next 3 or 4 years :)

thanks

Well I was going to suggest just doing a few smaller changes as a 3570K at 4.6 still is good.

But if you fancy a swap,

Im assuming you have an aftermarket cooler to keep your current cpu cool, if it supports socket 2011 (same as 2011-3) fitting then reuse it with new paste.

The 5930K has more PCI-E lanes for 3way+ SLI support.

So that way you can do a single 1080 card or sli 1070 etc.

I would hang on for the aftermarket GTX 1080's then. You can pre-order one if you want to. The Zotac one below gives you a 5 year warranty, or you could go with EVGA, Gigabyte or MSI etc.

I have a Asus Rog swift 1440p 144Gz Gsnc monitor

And forgot to say im more looking to upgrade complete system with you guys with a custom built one like last time :)

im ok changing Gpu's etc but wouldn't fill confident fiddling with the cpu etc

thanks

You need to speak to scottiB and see if he cant put a 1080 into this for you - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tita...-i7-5820k-4.4ghz-gtx-980ti-6gb-fs-146-og.html

And select the larger RAM option.

I wouldn't get rid of that i7 3770K if you are just gaming, but if you are doing other things that can make use of the extra cpu cores then fair enough.

ok great help given me something to think about :)

one more noob question please... i always had air coolers on the cpu so looking at going for something like this Hydro H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) which is under watercooling? so does this mean i will need to re fill it or something ?

thanks

this is what im leaning towards going for :)

any suggestions on changes ?

A single 1070 or 1080 should handle 1440p
Getting a 1070 would leave the option of getting another in SLI at some point for 4k, depending on the price of them.
I'd look at getting a M2 drive - the SM951's are getting cheaper (the SM961 should be out soonish)
