Hi,
I'm new to the forum but I am to understand this is a very good and knowledgeable community. I would like to attempt my first PC build, I will be playing games on the PC but for the near future I would be playing the highest end games. I will be spending between 400-500 pounds including OS, I have a mouse! But can get a keyboard and monitor relatively cheap else ware. If you could be of assistance in helping me with what components are compatible with eacother and a fairly good (and later upgradable) I would be very greatful.
Thanks in advance

I picked the AMD APU because it offers great graphical performance. A lot of people underestimate just what it can do with games (type in this model name on Youtube and you will see people playing BF3 with it). If you ever need more graphic power you can "crossfire" a 6xxx series card in the future.

Power supply is 650W which gives enough room to upgrade your system should you ever need to.

Only included 4GB RAM just because your gaming. But if you can get enough money I would recommend getting 8GB.

I left £50 or so because I did not know if your monitor/keybord was covered in this budget so I did leave a little so you wouldent have to change to much if thats not the case. If you can spend the full £500 on just the build I would recommend upgrading the RAM to 8GB.

Edit:
Here is an intel version with a graphics card & windows:

CPU can easily be upgraded to a i3/i5/i7 later if required. I also included a Z77 board but if you want a better processor, such as the i3, you can get another chipset board for cheaper.

Slightly over budget:

Can you specify what resolution you will be playing in?

YOUR BASKET

Thanks for the quick replays! Smoogels, would I also need to get a disc drive with that it ? I have a desperate budget for keyboard and monitor, the budget of 4-500 is just for completing the tower.

Bacon? I wish I could be more helpful or sound more technology-calllllly minded but I don't know :S I haven't used a PC for a good 5 years (cold turkey from all online games) but a friend got me to play League of Legends and unfortunately for my the itch is back. Long story short... whatever resolutionLoL is played in :S
Sorry if I'm no help haha

Hmm it appears I forgot about that. I never use discs anymore :P

The one bacon linked, 1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99, is good :)

ElGimpo, resolution is dependent mostly on the monitor. If its over 20" then im guessing 1080P.
You might have noticed the 7850 i specced costed over a third of the build :P The 7850 will play pretty much all new games on high/max settings easily, especially if overclocked.

I am only going to learn if I ask these questions... I can't see a graphics card in that list? Does this need a graphics card ? Or alternatively will I be able to later on install a graphics card ? Adlnd does it have to be FM1

Bacon? I do intend on getting a nice sized screen 22" HD something like that.

You guys are the ones in the know, if it would be better to get a better processor/ran/motherboard if I'm only browsing or playing LoL and then later install a good graphics card if I start playing GoW or CoD? ....once again I can only learn by asking :)
Cheers

Yes it would be better, however the i3 is still a very good CPU especially with the HT.

YOUR BASKET

1 x MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £77.38
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST1000DM003) £74.99
1 x OCZ ZS Series 550W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CML8GX3M2A1600C9) £44.99
1 x BitFenix Merc Alpha Gaming Case - Black £32.99
1 x OcUK 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM £17.99
Total : £502.37 (includes shipping : £11.75).

That option there gives you the bonus of the latest CPU's, a good motherboard and 8GB of 1600Mhz RAM rather than 1333.

Again I specced without incorporating an Operating System because of the free Windows 8 currently. If you want to buy the OS now rather than later just say, then I will stop the expensive specs ;) :P

Should you wish to go with the above build, I suggest using this motherboard: YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte H61MA-D3V Intel H61 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £47.99
Total : £57.89 (includes shipping : £8.25).

They are similar but this one offers Sata-III whearas the other only supports Sata-II

The AMD APU do not require a graphics card as it has very good integrated graphics. It can handle Modern warfare 3 and anything like that. It even have a good go at BF3 on medium/high. I suggested the APU because of this reason and that it gives a nice budget gaming machine. If you ever needed better graphics in the future you can just buy a 6xxx AMD graphics card to run in some sort of "crossfire".

I do have this processor and I am really surprised at what it can do. It's a shame not many people use them for budget gaming computers.

also supports crossfirex. Meaning you can add an extra graphics card. However, the CPU will become the bottleneck, so usually people use low powered graphics cards to improve on the APU (6670, that sort of stuff).

Thanks again for all the support guys, so the APU's inter grated graphics are more than good enough to Handel most games? If I did get a graphics card it would have to support crossfirex? But would this be irrelevant and cause the APU to work slower? I have spoken to a friend who thinks they can give me windows 7 so I now no longer need an OS. I don't know if this would change any of the build specs you have suggestes ? I know its a very noobie question... do I need to buy wires and cables ?
Cheers
ElGimpo

Wires and cables come with the PSU+board.

Thermal paste comes pre-applied to the heatsink.

The card doesn't actually need to say it supports Crossfire/Hybrid Crossfire, but if you look at the review I did and linked to earlier, you will see a little chart which shows what GFX card you need to use to then be able to Crossfire with the APU and boost performance.

The spec remains the same whether using win7 or 8.

EDIT: Someone correct me if I am wrong but doesnt the cards have to be the same if cross fire?

Dont confuse Crossfire of two discrete cards with Crossfire of the APU and a single discrete card (Dual Graphics technology).
