Just before christmas I was toying with the idea of building a new PC but at the time I didnt have enough cash. Well... I still dont have enough cash but the time has come to upgrade :)

At the moment I have:

Dell Optiplex GX620 (free from work)
3.2GHz Pentium 4
1.5GHz Generic Ram
250GB Seagate HDD
80GB Seagate HDD
SoundBlaster Audigy 4
GeForce 7800GT Extreme Edition
Tagan 480W PSU (with a bit of modding I managed to get this inside the Optiplex case :D)

Anyway, I would like to go back to AMD if at all possible with my budget (I know the usual e6300/ds3/geil combo is good value but I am a bit of an AMD fanboy...) - I would also like to get an ATI graphics card, I have always been an nVidia kinda guy but since AMD bought out ATI - why the hell not give ATI a try :)

So... for £600, what can I get? All suggestions are welcome! (Even e6300/ds3/geil specs :D)

Thanks,

Craig

The reason for the Conroe etc specifications is that AMD simply isn't competing well at present in the price/performance ratio but I'm sure something could be specified that was X2 AM2 based if you wanted.

Is your Tagan ATX 2.0 compliant? Just to work out what parts can be re-used. :)

//edit, gotta say you probably picked the worst possible time to decide you didn't like the companies with the best products on the market. :p

This might be suitable though, the motherboard is based on the 590 chipset which should be about the best overclocking motherboard you can get since to get Nvidia's approval they have to leave in certain standard overclocking options if memory serves. The rest are pretty solid parts with a very good cooler if you want to try overclocking.
