This is the computer i was planing to build at the end of the month, My budget is £800 very strict so nothing more then a tenner over. The build must include everything as i have been using a laptop for the last year.
I am not planning to overclock as i am to much of a wimp as i fried my last cpu and gpu!
Any advice, for gpu, cpu and motherboard would be great,
Last bit, the mobo and cpu is a kinda combo as i am hoping to use the cpu unlocker on the mobo for a quad core. Its got a real good success rate, also have not found a neg with the actual cpu.
Thanks for any help Guys

we can do better than that.

do i win a prize for fitting a 24" monitor in?

Awesome spec! You win 1 prize.

Was almost going to suggest a CX400 so he can have his 1TB HDD, but it just wont handle the 470. I can't bring myself to spec the cheapo OCUK PSUs either, so I think it stays as it is.

I like the 24" but i like the idea of running costs down, hence the led monitor, and low fan noise hence a cool reference 5850, and low power consumption. Knida wanted the 1tb for media files as i have a ridclous amount of backed up *cough* media on multiple drives.

the motherboard and psu are crossfire ready, the psu has four pci-e connectors, two for each card.

With the x4 cpu, was there a reason behind the mobo core unlocker or did it just happen to be there?

just happens to be there, a lot of motherboards do this, but there is no guarantee that a 555 cpu will unlock into a quad, so just buy a quad- 955

Now that i like, although i think i would ditch the case keep my choice, just because my wife just leant over and told me she has already bought it for me. So i think ill spill that money into the sata III drive, ohh maybe a 1.5 tb, The thing is all i do is game with my comp, barring storage, Can you see a real benifit to splashing the extra 60 on cpu, its not a forever build especially as i am keeping my eye on the new amd cpu for next year, but if you think it will help in games i will definitely keep it in the hat!

Hello Simon,

here is a bad boy bang-for-buck system . . . you just need to choose your own GPU although the system does has an IGP to get you started . . . You may be scared to clock this chip but its illegal not to do a little overclock and will be real easy just by changing the "unlocked" CPU multi from x16 to x18 for a nice clean 3.6GHz :D

AMD® Phenon™ II X4 955
  • 16 x 200 = 3200
  • 17 x 200 = 3400
  • 18 x 200 = 3600
The motherboard is a real gem for the price, only lacking SATA 6Gb/s & USB 3.0 . . . are these technologies really worth an extra £50-£60 to you? . . . also the case is Thermally advantaged and will keep all your hardware running nice and cool!

cheers, its a good build, and being able to crossfire will pay of when games get to demanding for the gpu.

having modern sata and usb3.0 will help if you decide to get a SSD later on.

And the Solid state is where i want to go after Christmas, a nice big 256 for games and os. I will keep posting until i make my decision, If you think of anything good then let me know please, and thanks for the site, some good bargains that knock scan out for six!
Just to keep you abreast,
Def going for the sapphire pure 625w psu
Thinking of sticking with the x2 555 and upgrading next year and look at the cpu's or just go up to x6.
But the reviews are better for crossfire on the asrock 890fx so ill keep that as well
Still more tempted by the slightly hire clocked xfx 5850

If it doesn't unlock you may regret buying a dualCore for games . . .

For £60.00 inc you could buy an AMD® Athlon™ II TripleCore 440 which is faster in MultiCore friendly games . . . offers more processing power and also has a chance to unlock to a QuadCore :p

£126.99 inc is really big money to be spending on a Socket AM3 board now . . using a single PCI-E 2.0 x16 GPU your not gonna benefit anything over a board costing £70 less! :(

The smart money is on a more affordable board now and a newer AM3+ board next year . . . but hey its your money and your PC! ;)

Still more tempted by the slightly hire clocked xfx 5850
Same applies . . . as soon as the new Radeon come out these cards will plummet in value . . . . do you really need a HD 5850 now? . . . £220 bucks is big money!

Just been looking at some froums talking about 6xxx series in a couple of months, would any one suggest ditching the 5850 for a 1gb 460 and keep a little extra for the upcoming 6850?
Tell me if this is a stupid idea.
