Hello all,

Just to give you a bit of background info before reading, it's been about 4 years since I last built a system (Was using a dual core 5500+). So I need to just pick your wonderful brains in regards to a couple of questions which I have.

Okay, so.. I'm on a bit of a budget being a Dad, and I've decided to treat myself as my laptop is a bit pap for gaming.

I've opted to go for an AMD build, ordered a Gigabyte micro ATX motherboard running the A85x chipset. Being on a budget I'm going to use an APU for now, I was considering the A10-5800K (3.8ghz), however, I don't know wether just to plump the extra twenty squid and go for the new Richland 6800K (4.1ghz).

I'm sticking 8gb of 1833 DDR3 RAM in with it for now.

I'm going to bung a graphics card in a later date when I have a good payslip from doing overtime, so I know gaming performance won't be blistering running off the APU.

So.. A10-5800K, or A10-6800K?
Also, I'm putting a Corsair CX500 PSU in it.. Will this be sufficient for what I'm running? Going to have 3 case fans, only 1 hdd, dvd drive etc. Will that PSU cope when I add a graphics card in the future?

Sorry if I've not been very clear, it's been a while :)

Many thanks,

Ben

The 6800k does give a performance boost over the 5800k but whether its worth the extra pounds £25 ~ not sure - I would probably spend the extra though :p

The PSU will be fine for adding another gpu in the future.

Hi Ben, noobie here,

I have gone for the same mobo as you, A10 6800K (just 'cos it's new !) and Patriot 8GB DDR3 Viper 3 Mamba Dual Channel 2 x 4GB 1866MHz ram. I don't game but do a wee bit of video of the grand kids and pics of same. File sharing in house. Using an existing case and PSU (750w).
I thought the proc. was good as I don't need extra card and the whole lot only came to £230 inc. del. to the Isle of Skye (locals here only buy if the post is free or cheap. In my case the cost was £2.48 and that is included in price.)
Hope you enjoy your build.

Well I'm bored of waiting on a reply lol

To be honest if you will definitely add a GPU later I would opt for the A8K. Yes the A10K has the better IGP but that's not going to matter once you have a dedicated GPU. I also wouldn't bother with Hybrid Xfiring with a lowend GPU either.

YOUR BASKET
1 x AMD A8-6600K 3.90GHz (Socket FM2) APU Richland Quad Core Processor (AD660KWOHLBOX) £99.95
1 x TeamGroup Xtreem LV 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (TXD38G2400HC10QDC01) £59.99
1 x Thermaltake Smart Series 530w Modular '80Plus Bronze' Power Supply £49.99
Total : £221.33 (includes shipping : £9.50).

500W or there abouts is ample for a single GPU setup. Getting a modular PSU is a wise investment too fella :)

Thanks for the replies, Skronk, RJC, and Honosuseri :) - Sorry took a while replying, been at work nearly 11 hours today :( bit tired.

The advice is great, you've gave something to sleep on Honosuseri, I might opt for the A8 then instead as I will definitely be adding a GPU later on. Thanks for also clearing up the PSU issue for me guys :).

Ben

Even with the 8gb you will be fine. You might be better off with an 8 core amd chip in my opinion

The mobo he has bought is FM2 so he is either looking at Trinity or Richland fella. The faster the RAM the better to assist the IGP for gaming aswell

No worries bud. Sleep is for the weak, you can rest when you're dead lol I look forward to seeing what you settle on in the end :D
