What i'm intending to get

Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail with FREE TrackMania 2 Canyon PC Game

Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Then Either

Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9)

or

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-15000C9 1866MHz Dual Channel Kit

What i already have and will be keeping
Antec 1200 case
6950(70) 2gb
psu is a Thermaltake toughpower range, possible its a 675W one.

Also i cant decide on a cooler, have been tempted by
Corsair Hydro H80 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/LGA2011/AM2/AM3)

I already have artic cooling freezer 7 pro which could be useable, but its been in there for 2-3 years and happy to replace it.

Main questions are

Any information on the watercooler as what i've seen looks promising if i cant find any decent proof i'll get an air cooler.

Suggestions on air cooler?

I'm also unsure about the ram, as not sure i'll actually get the increased speed out of the better ran running with an OC on the cpu.

This should oc to 4.4 = 4.6 easily?

Thanks in advance for any help!

You need to get the 2500K, the normal 2500 can't be overclocked.

Thanks, i've spent less time looking at the cpu than anything else!

And yes about the ram, I was reading some people getting the full speed + OC and others not having stable systems. Cheaper is better!

Cooler looks interesting, and almost get the impression its not that loud

Because Sandybridge works a little differently it's very rare to be changing the FSB from the stock 100mhz and you overclock using multiplier and voltage only. This means the RAM speed is totally independent from the CPU speed so you gain little from super fast RAM.

Cooler - totally recommend the Noctua D14.

Plus the support from Noctua has been outstanding. When I stupidly sent my heatsink baseplate away with my motherboard during the B3 intel recall. They sent me all the spare parts free of charge.

Thanks for the quick replys,

I'm still looking at the water cooler but knowing me I'll likely get an air cooler again, just need to make a choice then i can order!

It did help, up until i noticed the "ETA: 23/09/11" but i at least have a fan i could use and swap later, although that doesn't sound so good!

i have just this weekend bought Asrock extreme4 gen3, i5 2500k, 850 watt corsair psu, Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB 1600mhz and a corsair a70 cooler , runs perfect idles at about 30c and in the high forties under load also can auto overclock wtih the asrock auto tuning software to a prime stable 4.4ghz. im sure it will hit a higher overclock using manual adjustment but tbh this chip is so powerfull it doesnt need an overclock...not yet anyway. I did consider water cooling but to worried about leak or pump failure and am very happy with the corsair A70, after my ocz psu blew and power surged and blew my board on my last quad core reliabilty is my number one concern

for this money cant be beat

btw amazing board well worth every penny

thanks for the info,

I was hoping to hear from some that have used the water cooler, but tbh i proved last time where i keep my pc ends up too warm for water coolers. Kinda decided on the Thermalright Silver Arrow CPU Cooler but finding one is the next problem!
