Hello everyone can you give me some help with a new build pc tower.
I will only be surfing the net and downloading music emails ebay etc.
Im not into gaming but because xp is faster than vista the components
that are inside do make a difference to speed. i hate waiting for pages to
load. ive got 4meg virgin broadband. my preference would be intel p45
chipset and a gigabyte m board. but which board there seems to be a lot
of model choices. i dont need a big hard drive i would not use it im not into
dvds or movie watching my top priority would be speed questions
1. quad core or core 2 duo which chip overclocked or not
2. which motherboard model i will be using ddr2 ram but some will take both
3. which ram and how much
4. which hard drive or 2 hard drives or velociraptor
going to take advantage of the interest free credit from overclockers
tomorrow saterday cheers oceanobsession

firstly budget?

secondly unless you build a very very poor pc, the componets make little difference to how fast a webpage loads up

1 ) dual core unless you do a lot of intensive multi-tasking (listening to music while browsing the net does not count)

3) stick with DDR2 and get 2GB

4) just get 2 HDDs 1 for backup one for normal use, velocoraptors are faster but unless you start gaming theres no need for them

i hate waiting for pages to
load. ive got 4meg virgin broadband.

you may what to check your actual upload and download speed. you may have bought 4meg broad band but thats "up to" 4 meg.

i suggest using http://www.speedtest.net/
just click on the yellow pyramid and your away.

also www.samknows.com is pretty good at giving info about your local exchange shown as a blue house, then click on the link on the top link to see more detail on the exchange.

case looks a good choice, sorry but i cant help you with the compatability, i never was good at that bit :(

+1, faster GPU, CPU etc... won't make it internet speed faster

you may have a faulty component like network card or your broadband speed is not as advertised - i had same probem with BT and had to be on their case for 3 weeks - got fixed in the end
