Ok, I'm more than overdue for a new computer and it's been a few years since I've built one so I'm a bit out of touch with current equipment.

I am upgrading from athlon xp 3200+, 1gb ddr400 (i think) ram, geforce 6800gs agp, 2x74gb raptors in raid, as it's really starting to struggle.

I will mainly be using it to play games - although I do have a tendency to have itunes/limewire etc. running at the same time.

I am not going to be overclocking - at least not to any great degree.

My budget is about £750 and i will be getting it in the next month or 2.

I have come up with....

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.66GHz (1333FSB) - Retail £107.99
(£126.89) £107.99
(£126.89)

* is this the best option, or should I get a quad core at equivalent price?
also I will replace this with the new version that is coming soon if the price is similar.

Asus P5K Pro Intel P35 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £72.99
(£85.76) £72.99
(£85.76)

* this is my biggest confusion - so many different chipsets available. I will not have sli/crossfire and I will be running a raid hard drive setup, and ddr3 ram seems very expensive so I think this is a good choice?

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-6400C4 (2x2GB) CAS4 Dual Channel Kit (F2-6400CL4D-4GBPK) £79.99
(£93.99) £79.99
(£93.99)

* again ddr3 seems ridiculous money, but should I pay a bit more for 1066mhz memory which the motherboard supports or is there little benefit?

OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - OEM £199.99
(£234.99) £199.99
(£234.99)

* seems a very good deal at the price.

Asus DRW-2014L1T 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer Lightscribe ReWriter (Black/Silver) - Retail £20.99
(£24.66) £20.99
(£24.66)

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) £14.99
(£17.61) £14.99
(£17.61)

* does this come with thermal compound?

Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit Edition DVD - OEM - 1Pk (66R-00838) £101.99
(£119.84) £101.99
(£119.84)

Samsung SpinPoint T 500GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (HD501LJ) £52.99
(£62.26) £52.99
(£62.26)

* I will also be keeping my raptors and using this for music/por...em. art videos.

Along with this i will be keeping my raptors, plus dell 2001fp monitor. keyboard/mouse/speakers.
my case is the antec p160 - i assume the graphics card will fit ok in this?
I currently have an antec true blue 480w psu - don't want to replace it unless i have to, will it be up to the job?

Thank you
