Hello all! new to the forums & first thread. :p

Well, soon I'll be starting a new PC build and would like some advice on the case and maybe some of the hardware components.

Here's what I'm looking at building:

CPU:
Q6600, or the Q9450 - is the extra £100 really worth it?
Mobo: ABIT IX38 QuadGT iX38
RAM: OCZ 4x2gb DDR2
GFX: Was going to get 2 x 9800GX2 but decided I'm going to wait for the ATI 4000 series - will be setting up crossfire.
Optical: LG GGC-H20L
HDD: 2 x Samsung SpinPoint F1 750GB

Now comes down to the cooling, case and PSU;

  • What case will fit these components in nicely and not too tightly ?
  • What PSU would you recommend for powering this system ?
  • Finally, what cooling components should I be looking at for this rig?

Any advice on the actual hardware listed will also be appreciated.

Many thanks! :p

Antec 900 Case is pretty sweet i love mine. Comes with some pretty awesome fans with the case itself. :)
Its pretty large case so i would think it would hold what you've got.
You might need to buy some dust filters tho if you intend to use the fans as they can gather a bit of dust over time.

Cooling im no pro on ive always just used fans, the ones i got with the Antec seem to do the job for me. Still not got my head to water cooling altho its proberbly the best option. (i just dont like the thought of water and electronics together :p )

PSU well i went with a Xilence 750W Redwing Modular PSU, Modular is deff the way to go i think makes cable management so much easier

Hope the info is of help.

Also welcome to ocuk :p
Having said that im pretty damm new too so

I had the Antec 900 and although a very nice case if the cards you are buying are as long as a 8800GTX it will only just squeeze in I've been told

9800GX2 x 2 also seems pretty damm expensive them cards from what ive read are fairly chunky too so maybe antec might not be the one for you :(
(a lot of things ive also read on these they arent really worth the cash atm you would be better off waiting for 9900 in june or as you said the ATI 4000)
Tbh also if you want that much HDD space you will prob be best just to buy one 1Tb HDD now and another when (which you wont) fill it up :p

I could easily fill 1.5TB. Although i'd go for the 1TB drives as they have denser platters which means the drives are somewhat quicker. Another vote for antec 900, i have an 8800GT which fits fine and yeah the fans and the cooling system is pretty impressive (the 300 and 1200 have just been released, OCUK stock em).

For PSU the last 2 i've bought have been Corsair HX's and well impressed with them.

Thanks for the replies guys :) what sorta PSU wattage should I be looking at?

I just looked some reviews on the Antec 900 and apparently having 2 big gfx cards can be a bit of a squeeze.

really depends on the connectors it comes with etc... rail voltage ampage etc.

But i mean id imagine you would need around an 800 - 900 Wattage for 2 gfx's
Again im just going on thoery ive not got the money to test 2 gfx's :p

Depends on your budget tbh but then if your buying 2 gfx's in one swoop well
