Hi all,

I am finally about to build a new PC (about time). I'm still unsure if to go with the i7 930 or wait for the sandy bridge chips.

My PC atm is a P4 2.66Ghz with a ATI X800XT (AGP) lol.

I use to do a lot of gaming but due to work have not been able to do so.

I have finally the time to enjoy gaming once more... PC will be used mainly for gaming, work (coding and stuff).

from reading hundreads of reviews I have just about selected my mobo and CPU:
-Mobo:Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R
-CPU: Intel i7 930 @ 2.8Ghz

thats all I have atm - is the above any good?
I cannot decided which GPU to purchase. i'm kinda liking the 5870 but cannot deiced if I should fork out extra ££ for a 2GB version...

Any pointers would be appreciated on above items and also for the remainder of the parts i.e: case, HD, RAM, Sound card..

Thanks all

Sandy Bridge is a good 6 months or more away, don't wait that long.

As stulid said the 920 is a good deal cheaper than the 930 and represents excellent value and you could use the money saved to get a 2gb 5870...

total budget? do you need a monitor, windows7, keyboard and mouse?

but for a start the i7 920 is cheaper than a 930, and is only 1 clock multiplier lower- http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-325-IN&groupid=701&catid=6&subcat=1272

hey guys

total budget I can stretch to £1500 but would rather prefer to stay close to £1000

Yeah i'll need a new Monitor - my old Monitor works perfect but I think my GPU will be overkill if i keep this monitor (its an AOC 19'' flat CRT). i'll need a new mouse and keyboard too..... + wndows 7 (64bit? or 32?)

cheers

horrible.

rubbish, small harddrive
rubbish case that cant even fit that graphics card-probably
nasty mouse and keyboard
money wasted on a sound card, when the onboard audio is excellent

wheres the psu?

What? It doesn't even support eax, the bass management is ****, the recording options are non-existant compared to x-fi.

Why buy a massive hard drive, if it goes you lose everything, two smaller ones, you lose half and have to fork out less.

The case will totally fit the soundcard, and the keyboard is fine, the mouse could be better

Are you trolling or just really sad and bored?

I didn't add a psu? why do you care?

i said probably cant fit the graphics card! learn to read.

EAX isnt really going anywhere fast

i believe a computer needs a psu, thats why i care.

your spec fails-a lot.

and you fail at not being rude to people for no reason.

get a life, do you think he would blindly copy what I wrote and then build a pc without a psu?

Is this competitive for you? Inadequate fl

I really hope he buys your build so you can jizz yourself

I hope he does buy what i suggested, at least he will be able to press the power button and enjoy it.

and why post a rubbish spec if you then say he wont follow it.

the oc i5 bundle and 5870 is what I recommend.

This is serious business for you, don't get your top of the line keyboard all sticky...
