Hi

I am looking to build myself a new PC and was after some advice / help.

I have just got myself a Gopro 3 and find my existing machine is not up to par for it. Primary usage will be for the pictures and videos from the gopro so will be working with 12MP and 1080P files as standard for editing etc. The spec won't be used for gaming. I will also watch / download / stream films and TV through it.

I would like to have a near silent machine when running and due to my TV/Audio set up would like to have only one cable out to carry both sound and picture. Other stuff I am flexible on.

My budget is approx £400. I would hope to salvage the ATX case and DVD drive from my current machine but would need an OS system as well - Windows 7 or 8.1.

What's the best solution for me?

Thanks.

I believe that for that sort of budget, you are going to be relatively hard pushed to find something that is going to fly along. You could probably get something along the lines of the following.

(Please note, I am new to speccing, so wait for one of the more experienced chaps to offer some insight as well :))

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7790 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £88.00
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £83.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00403) £72.00
1 x Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 MicroATX Motherboard £49.99
1 x Crucial Ballistix Sport 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU) £43.99
1 x Corsair Builder Series CX 430W V2 '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply (CP-9020046-UK) £39.95
1 x Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) HDD £39.95
Total : £431.36 (includes shipping : £11.25).

I would expect that for the sort of work you will be doing on it, a decent CPU is going to be quite important, and to fit into the budget, you would not even be able to get an i3 in, so this would be a decent enough choice. I believe everything should work together. It comes in slightly over but I think for £400 it will be quite difficult for the reasons why you want it.

Thanks for the spec(s). I'm going to go for the APU build and have a couple of questions.

A guy from work has offered me an 'Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Rev 2' and an 'OCZ 500w Stealthxstream'. Both new for a total of £40. Would these fit in with the APU build?

And if I found the money for a 60GB SSD (early Christmas present), which would be the best one to go for on the APU build?
