Hi

I'm looking to build a new PC between now and the end of the month and have so far decided on the following:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £275.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance Pro Gold 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-19200C10 2400MHz Dual Channel Memory Kit (CMY16GX3M2A2400C10A) £179.99
1 x Asus Z87-PRO Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £166.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black £135.95
1 x Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme/ All-in-one LCS CLW0217 CPU Cooler (Socket 1155 / 1150 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £109.99
1 x XFX Pro Series 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £94.99
Total : £978.90 (includes shipping : £12.50).

I have a xonar and 670 to carry over from my existing PC and am looking at the 840 EVO 250GB if it's available by the end of the month.

I'm aware the CPU and RAM may be more money for little improvement over 8GB and an I5 but my intention is to only upgrade to graphics card in the next 3 or so years which is why I think the 4770K and 16GB might be suitable.

Does this seem an OK build or are there smarter choices given the above?

Thanks in advance

The ram and board definitely made for each other :D

You could save £30 ~ on a cheaper motherboard but if your on budget leave as is.

I would do this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £275.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £158.99
1 x Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black £135.95
1 x XFX Pro Series 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £94.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual CHannel Kit (PV38G213C1K) £65.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 90 Day Guarantee £39.95
1 x Corsair Fan, SP120 PWM Low Noise High Pressure Fan 4 pin, Dual Pack (CO-9050012-WW) £25.99
Total : £812.84 (includes shipping : £12.50).

RAM is OTT, 8GB at best would be used for gaming anything more would be drawing power for nothing.
H100 is refurb, use stock cooler untill the H100 is available
Gigabyte Mobo, you get UK RMA

You could go X79 for that price:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-3820 3.60GHz (Sandybridge-E) Socket LGA2011 Processor - Retail £259.99
1 x MSI X79A-GD45 Plus (8D) Intel X79 (Socket 2011) DDR3 Motherboard £153.95
1 x Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black £135.95
1 x XFX Pro Series 850W XXX Edition Modular '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £94.99
2 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual CHannel Kit (PV38G213C1K) £65.99 (£131.98)
1 x Corsair Hydro H100 Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler *Manufacturer Refurbished Unit - 90 Day Guarantee £39.95
1 x Corsair Fan, SP120 PWM Low Noise High Pressure Fan 4 pin, Dual Pack (CO-9050012-WW) £25.99
Total : £859.30 (includes shipping : £13.75).

I do love it when people style their builds, although in this case it's costing to do so.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor & Corsair H100i CPU Cooler Bundle £358.99
1 x Gigabyte Z87X-OC Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £179.99
1 x Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 PC3-17000C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (PV316G213C1K) £119.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 540 High Airflow ATX Cube Case - Black £113.99
1 x XFX Pro 850W Core Edition '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply £74.99
Total : £862.04 (includes shipping : £11.75).

Alternate case that won't punish you for using a non modular PSU. Excellent OC'ing mobo too, just needs a wifi network card if that's a must.

Thanks for the feedback.

This is my first build where I'm thinking about aesthetics (Last PC with a window was a Lian li about 12-13 years ago).

I'm OK with moving to gigabyte for the mobo as that's what I've had the last 5-6 years without issue. Patriot are not a brand I've used but ok with that if it's recommended.

This is the first time i'm putting water into the case though so am worried about the refurb aspect. Cost aside, is the H100 a better solution than the thermaltake?

Sorry if this is a daft question, but is the fan pack to replace the fans on the case or the watercooler or just to max out the number of fans?

Budget is not strict for this build.

Thanks

About to push the button on the below, any last minute suggestions or gotchas? Clearance for the cooler etc?

Sticking with the 16gb I think as it's not much more and saves having to try and match it up 2-3 down the line.

Moved to gigabyte and patriot as suggested.
