Hello,

Just about to upgrade an old rig as I've been gaming using an MSI Stealth for the past couple of years (gaming laptop that doubles as my dev machine).

I've got a case which i'm happy with so I wont need that or the dvd rw. Not sure on the name of the case could check this when i get back but its got 2 front fans, 1 on the top and 1 at the rear with a side vent that can also have a fan on.

I will look to spend more money on it in the future so this is sort of a "base" with good opportunities for upgrade. requirements:

> Run World of Warcraft (Legion) flawlessly
> Quick boot times
> Clear and future-proofed path for upgrades

Overclocking isn't something I've looked at, I don't play any games that would utilise an overclocked rig.

I'v got this so far:

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £552.00
(includes shipping: £11.10)

Any help would be much appreciated, looking to pull the trigger this weekend.

Looking to get this done for under 600£

Cheers,

James

I am at work at the moment so cant do up a system but i wouldn't go with AMD as their CPUs are old unless you had a reason for using AMD?

i would go for the Intel I5 range as your only gaming.

edit, something i have quickly knocked up, slightly over your budget but a Intel system

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £616.66
(includes shipping: £11.70)

I am sure someone maybe able to do better but just a quick knock up!

okay, sorry to put a downer on half of your list but I would reccomend the following:

Not going with amd am3+ platform! the value isn't actually amazing unless you go second hand. The upgrade path isn't great because the high end am3+ chips are frankly old and offer poor single threaded and muli-threaded perfomance compared to the high-end intel offerings.
You can get value in low end skylake chips like the i5 6400 (also much better upgrade path than AM3+ platform)

I would recommend 240gb ssd as a minimum, they aren't much more expensive than 120gb ones.
You wont need 750w of power and you could definately get a better power supply for less, for example:

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/supe...0-plus-gold-power-supply-black-ca-038-sf.html

The upcoming cards are much more power efficient and draw tiny amounts of power, if you need more juice then this is a much better value proposition

The 970 isn't a very a good investment at the moment, as the AMD rx480 will release very soon, which should beat it considerably in price and performance. The lower end of the GTX 10xx line is yet to be revealed aswell, which could make the 970 an even less logical purchase. If I were you I would hold off on getting a GPU for at least a few weeks

Thanks very much for the recommendations guys, no worries about changing what I've got so far. There is no specific reason why I went with AMD to be honest so happy to take advice on Intel.

Appreciate the advice on intel, PSU and GPU.

May consider the 240gb ssd as thats a valid point.

By getting the low w PSU will i leave myself head room for upgrades? What if I want to overclock or SLI or something?

Cheers

The newer gpu's have a much lower power draw than previous generations so unless you want to go for crossfire/sli then 550w is plenty.

For example the best single GPU currently is the GTX 1080, which has around 200W power draw when overclocked, leaving loads of headroom for other components (if you go for 500W+ psu)

Given the price of the fractal design power supply I posted, it would be a good choice. That price for a platinum rated power supply is very good, from a reputable brand (not quite as good as seasonic or superflower though) and would give you head-room and peace of mind if you were to put some power-hungry graphics cards in there

by the way it is a good time to get a skylake 6600k and motherboard because msi and asus have a cashback promotion going on. So could save yourself £30
