thanks, is the ocuk psu that bad? i need to double the price?

also will the price of the 6970s go down that much when the new 7's are out do u think

oh and will i need sata cables or does the MB come with some

Am i on the right tracks?

Not really.

Slash the spend on the graphics card. By 50% if you need too. Even the mobo if necessary. Get an 120mb+ ssd.

Who cares how high you have your gfx settings if you are the last person on the server to load the level.

You will need to consider your other wider 'options', seek other horrizons shall we say, rather than spending £92 on a 500mb 7000rpm drive. If you dont need the raw storage space then fine, ignore this. But otherwise get a 2gb 5400rpm drive for <£90 to pair with the ssd for file space.

Get a more efficient 400-500W PSW [do not spend less though]. You dont need 750W if you are buying a sensible gfx card.

Yes it is, no you dont need to double, you could get one for a bit lewss that would meet the current needs, but this one is modular, will allow the addition of a 2nd card later in xfire if needed (I presumed so based on mobo selection) and is very good efficiency, plus is reasonably priced for what it is

This is a non modular version, not quite as efficient, or
this is a modular, less efficient and lower rated PSU, both still very good though

IMO they wont come down any time soon, also how imminent they are is up for debate, but its all quite contentious, check out the gfx card sub forum for many threads discussing this

Youll get all the cables you need yes

Edit: Seeing above poster, I presumed as you did not list a HDD you are re-using an old one? But yes a SSD could be a worthwhile investment, if you dont plan on future xfire then you could save a bit on the PSU (get the Antec above) and mobo

Two is good. Can save alt tabbing. Watch TV. Have folders and apps on the other screen. People usually keep their old knackered original TFT for this.

Needed to confirm you were not intending to try tri fire with another existing screen, in which case you would need the gfx umph.

But why spend so little on the central screen and have a pokey 21" size? As an ex Apple user why are you now going gheto on your computer case quality?

You just dont need to spend £260 on graphics and £160 on a mother board.

I don't have an old tft, I am literally starting from scratch and well tbh 21" is an improvement on the 15" macbook pro i currently have and space is an issue, I thought that case looked ok plus its going to be under a desk anyway, had good reviews anyway.

ok thanks for advice, does this now look better, might stick to one decent monitor on grounds of cost:

MSI ATI Radeon HD 6970 2048MB Twin Frozr III GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card **Supplied with Dirt 3 & Deus Ex PC Games**

Iiyama ProLite E2407HDS 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Black
£154.99

Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (WD5000AAKX)

Gelid Tranquillo CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366) £25.99

Samsung SH-S222AB/RSMS 22x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black/Silver/Biege) - Retail
£19.99

Monitor size is not as relevant as resolution is, 22" and 24" monitors almost invariably have same res of 1920 x 1080 (or 1200 if 16:10 rather than 16:9) as do a lot of the 27" ones too (incl one above), all increasing the physical size does is stretch out the pixels which can result in the image looking more blurry or washed out, in short there was nothing wrong with your first monitor selection, IMO

If you want a gaming PC, then £270 on a gfx card is not unreasonable, in fact is quite reasonable really

A slightly cheaper mobo would be this one which is still really good, or alternatively you can spend as little as you want, as long as it has the features you need it to, a mistake some people make is paying over the odds for extra features they dont need/want

so are you saying we should go spend £100 or so on graphics cards and have the setting turned down to low? whats the point of the £200-£600 graphics cards then? we may as well get a xbox360 and play the games on that ;)

Something along these lines would be a flyer;

snip

not with the 560ti instead of the 6970(which is only £20 £27 more) ;)

with the 912 you'll have to remove the top hard drive cage to fit the graphics card as its 310mm, with the cage fitted the maximum size the case fits is 270mm graphics cards.

can't help with the monitor choice tho sorry.

not with the 560ti instead of the 6970(which is only £20 £27 more)

The 448 edition is a wolf in sheeps clothing, esp the msi one, clocks like a beast while drawing less power :)

At 1920 x 1080 and a healthy ammount of system ram the 448 does plenty, plenty well.

But I agree, the 6970 is better value for money in this price range, if only the 448 was £199 :p

so are you saying we should go spend £100 or so on graphics cards and have the setting turned down to low?

No.

I said spend less and get an ssd. Which is £130.

So thats a £120 mobo and a £180 graphics card. SSD + £180 graphics trumps £270 graphics.

That £270 is going to be looking out of date in 3 months. There is a right time to spend £200+ on a graphics card and that time is at the release of a new manufacturing process.
