jw ppls thoughts, as i want to order within a few hours, my main worry is whether the dual gtx 470s is a waste, i am not looking at lowering the price, just not sure whether a single 480 and upgrading something else would be better? i don't want gayTI so please don't recommend that as there driver updates are jus awful.

so again this pc is going to be used to play final fantasy 14 at high spec and i didn't mention this last time but some visual editing across 2 monitors, i am basically just looking for the smoothest gaming experience as well as multitasking and trying out some 3ds max or other editing tools

thankyou and i hope i get a reply soon so can order and maybe get it delivered by tmrw, maybe.

Yep Id go with a single 480 personally, prob the MSI
IMO the cpu cooler is not worth it, Id just get something around the £30 mark, Titan if its in or the Akasa Venom if not, this is more than enough
Id use the money saved from gpu/cooler to squeeze in a SSD for your boot drive/main apps n games, the Crucial 64Gb is good value

+1 to single 480 and get a C300 SSD with the difference. Much better. That cooler is pretty pricey, but then I do like my H50, so why not keep the H70? You're obviously not penny pinching or there's a whole load of other savings you could make too!

hm well the main reason i wasnt looking to get a ssd is cause they have got a massive profit on them because of them being fairly new to building computers, cause cmon, solid state arent that expensive to make, u can get little mem cards wit nrly as much solid state memory but for less, ill av a lok at this crucial one, and please correct me if im wrong on that, i havent ordered a computer in a while

is that the maximum you want too spend or do you have a specific budget ?

what size monitor/resolution do you game on, any plans to upgrade it in the future ?

wouldn't go with the H70, from comments in the oc/cooling section not really worth the cost over the h50/some of the decent air coolers.

if your going to go with an ssd look at the 128gb versions then you have a decent chance of getting your main apps loaded on it along with the o/s.

also the only inputs im sure i have on these tvs are hdmi so will i need to buy dvi to hdmi adapters right?, or just one cause theres hdmi, i will be using the optical audio connection on the motherboard so sound output will not be needed

the limit is basically 1720, i do have some of my own money i could spend on it too but this is a insurance thing for an accident a while back and im meant to be building this as a project

1830 with this 128GB c300 does seem reasonable as this does seem useful for me, so updating the basket as:

been waiting what feels like ages for this so thank you for the quick replies guys :)

As for the h70 im looking for some nice silent cooling and to overclock to make this beast last me longer as a gd system, but i wont be doing that until it starts getting a bit slow so as to keep its life nice and long

SSDs aren't expensive because the manufacturers are taking the p***. £110 for 64GB is fair enough - find a 64GB USB memory stick for much less than that, and bear in mind it'll be miles slower than an SSD. Have you seen the price of a decent 64GB SD or CF card?!! Of ocurse they're more expensive than mechanical HDDs, and they will get much cheaper, but given their performance they're a real nice-to-have right now and at your budget you can work one in.

ok well thnx for that, jus bout to hit buy wit 2 of those dvi adapters as i need to go out and want to order before, any other opinions anyone wants to add before i leave?

looking at the 480 you need a mini hdmi to hdmi cable, but looking at the specs on some of the 480s on ocuk :

Includes HDMI & VGA Adapters so not sure what they will include might be worth sending them a webnote or email.

Only the one output is required atm so i guess ill jus wait and see, it does say it comes with the one hdmi adapter and should be here monday hopefully :) i have ordered 2 of those dvi adapters jus incase theyr needed. i also forgot to ask if dvi output actually differs from hdmi atall video quality wise, wont be using the sound anyway.

probably shudnt have rushed it but wanted to ensure a monday delivery and tbh wanted to jus ge it done with as it has been tiring me out looking at all the parts xD

Jolly good - when it all arrives we want a nice photo of all the boxes arranged in a nice pile filling your lounge :). Good luck with the build.

ok so i built the pc myself and on first boot i seem to be getting no display.

The power stays on, all fans are working, even the one on the gpu. I'm using the dvi-hdmi adapter that came with the 480 to connect to my tv.

Im not sure what other information to give, other than the phase LEDS on the motherboard are all on (2 green 2 yellow 2 red) and so are the ones by the RAM, (2 green 2 yellow). I baffled to be quite honest, i have built a computer quite some years ago but it wasnt this complex.

Can anyone give some advice on what might be the problem and how to fix it?
