In the next few days I will be starting my Build as my order arrived today, I know about setting AHCI in bios before I start the OS install.

I have 3 x 500GB HDD and 1 x 1TB HDD in my system that are close to bursting with Steam Library backups, Music, High Def Home Movies and Photos ..

These drives have been pulled from a system that was setup in IDE mode will I have to reformat them before they get installed into the new one ?

they will be fine aslong as they aren't the os drive

if one of them is and you wanna boot from it then set to ide in the bios and if win7 you can do a simple reg tweak to enable ahci without re installing

I don't know the fix if win8

You wont have to reformat theese storage drives, just leave them unplugged while your installing windows to the ssd/hdd that you intend to use as your boot drive. Once the os is installed, you can plug them back in and theyll be detected fine as storage drives.

Thanks for that ... none are going to be the boot drive and its a fresh install of Win 7 for now just to get the rig up, running and tested ...
