Well i should probably have asked this before ordering, but whats the thoughts on the Sabertooth 990FX? Just ordered the Corsair Carbine 540 with the Sabertooth and hoping to order an 8 Core through the week. This will be a gaming machine but only for the likes of BF4, Titanfall and FS X.

Another question Intel seem to be bringing out new CPU's and new sockets etc why have amd not done the same, i remember building the same 8350 8 core 3 years ago

simple question = simple answer

AMD have never been really "gaming" / "enthauast" focused. Intel are the company making billions per year. AMD have only recentyl got themselves out of some debt. AMD are only strong in the GPU industry at the minute. And probably wont have anything worth taking about for 3+ years.

My honest advice would be to return the Motherboard and go intel. I have been AMD myself for years (very loyal) but im making the move to intel myself due to AMD lacking behind.

i would recommend going z97 motherboard and to start off with an i5 4670k processor. Like for like in cost.. Well processor slightly more expensive but far better on the gaming preformance

The FX8350 isn't even 2 years old.

And AMD have nothing to launch, they've basically gone back to the drawing board, they're only launching their stuff as APU's for now. That's put simply, and if one was to go into technical details, it's not strictly true, but it's as true as it can be as a blanket statement.

And Intel launched a socket over a year ago last.

You're cray cray.

Cheers for the replies

Ah sorry it was the 8320 i build 2 and a bit years ago not 8350 :)

I boggled my mind for about 2 hours before deciding AMD, only thing made me choose AMD was that its cheap and even i dont believe their are any games or even the ones i listed that would take full advantage of the 4 cores / 4 threads. Do overclockers do returns if i decided to change my mind? The only thing is im not really into overclocking the components anyway

Yes under DSR(Distance selling regulations) you should have 14 days minimum for returns :)

You have the board on the way now and it's a great board. If you send it back you will be out of pocket on return postage. It's not what I would have done (should have asked before buying) but why not keep the board and get a 8320 along with a decent cooler and clock it to around 4.5Ghz (has the same clocking potential as the 8350). No it's not as good as Intel but for a cpu that cost's less than £100 it's a lot of bang for buck.

Ah another scotsman :D Yes ive decided to keep the Mobo and buy the 9590. Not going to be overclocking and any of the 4 - 8 core cpus will handle the games i have so its not really a problem, its just me listening to other people that all :D lol cheers for the reply

Cornishman living in Scotland actually. The wife is Scottish though. :D

Please do not buy the 9590. It is probably the biggest waste of money that AMD has ever realeased and is aimed at die hard AMD fanboys who know no better. The cpu alone pulls 220w alone even at stock settings. If you want to spend that sort of money and are not going to overclock, ever, return the motherboard, get a board such as the Gigabyte B85M-D3H or Asus Vanguard B85 and a 4790k. Both boards do crossfire should you be inclined to use a pair of AMD cards down the line. If you want a pair of Nvidia cards though you have no choice but to go Z97 and the cheapest board that does that is the Gigabyte Z97X-SLI which also does crossfire. The reason I recommend the 4790K over the non K 4790 is that the k is 4Gha while the non k is 3.6Ghz.

Please please please dont waste money on the 9590. definately not worth it.

Seriously? Holy ****!

Its the same as over clocking any of the other AMD chips to around that level - in fact they're probably worse as they require more volts to do the same thing

With regards to the OP, having had both, you will get a few extra fps from an intel setup. However, I have had much more fun with my AMD build. Much easier to overclock and have in fact won the corsair overclocking competition with mine which got me some extra stuff :) Games aren't exactly unplayable - we are talking 60fps on the AMD in most games compared to 80+ on the intel setup, and with more games utilising more cores that will diminish somewhat. I can't notice a difference at all on BF4 for instance, but can on WoT.

If you're not going to overclock then may be best to switch to an intel setup (although that costs quite a bit more + return postage for the stuff you've already got) or go for one of the higher powered AMD chips. BUT remember that you can easily get 4.8Ghz solid 24/7 from an 8350 with a little tinkering - and a bit of fun along the way :D

It depends what was the reason for it being returned as a b grade. Its probably that it wasn't a good enough clocker for whoever bought it and so they returned it - meaning that it'd be a steal if you're keeping it at stock clocks! Tempted myself for one now, see how it compares to my 8350... :D

Really good board ... just put an 8320 on it very very easy to put some OC on the cpu, I have AMD and have not come across a game that I play that does not look and play amazing.

cheers for the replies, yes will NOT be overclocking any time soon hence why i thought it was a steal at that price, only thing that concerns me is that i may need to buy watercooling for it and possibly a new psu :(. So in the end i might just pay the little extra and get the 8320/50
