Hi,

Have a new build here (i3 4130, asus h81i plus, 8gb ram and a crucial m100 ssd.) What would cause it to take ages and ages to restart?

When booting from cold , it boots fine , if im in windows and I click restart it sits with a black screen on the monitor for 5 mins sometimes as though it hasn't picked up the video signal?

Total fresh install of windows, twice to rule out a dodgy install. Have tested the ram and it passed.

Using it on a U2414h monitor

Ive reinstalled it again and made sure all drivers are installed properly. Still doing the same. Its connected to a Dell U2414H monitor which ive read on google that it has some issues waking up when connected to computers via displayport but im connected by hdmi. Could this be the problem?

When you are doing a restart, are you doing ti for a particular reason, as in new software or updates that require a reboot?
Also, which version of windows are you using? I have found with Win 8.1, you sometimes get a black screen when it is reconfiguring your settings and seems like ages.

Go into the bios and turn off one by one things like onboard LAN, sound etc and see if one of them is causing a hang up on restart/shutdown.

Hi,

Im using the latest motherboard bios yes. Using Windows 8.1 64bit.

Most of the time I am restarting to do a software update. Will try a restart now and report back

Just closed all apps/windows running and clicked restart. Restarted immediately but sat with a black screen for 1 and a half mins. Monitor light just flashing slow to say no signal. Then it just saw the video and booted but it took a minute and a half to do that.

Ive just tried disabling onboard things one at a time. No change. Ive tried disabling hybrid restart. No change. Ive unplugged anything from the USB ports. No change. Turned off fast boot and no change.

Have no idea what it is!

Ive found the cause of the issue!!

I thought id unplugged everything but realised I hadn't unplugged my Asus USB-N14 wireless adaptor. Ive unplugged that and it restarts perfect. Ive tried installing an older driver for it and it still does it.

Any ideas why this would stop it restarting straight away and how to fix it?

Matt

****FIXED IT****

Ive uninstalled the drivers and installed an old Windows 8 64bit driver for it and it works perfectly and restarts perfectly. So it was driver related.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Matt
