Hi all. I'm new to these forums but they came highly recommended so i'm hoping you can help me. I am going for a complete upgrade. I have read a fair few of the forums posts and have put together the following.
Are there any changes anyone can suggest, perhaps cheaper alternatives to the below but equal performance?

Also not entirely convinced I have selected a good motherboard.

Anyones thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks in advance
Merry Christmas!! :D

i like the abit IP35 (pro or otherwise) boards, they are very good for ocing.

and change that PSU to a Corsair or something.

looks good =]

also, welcome to the forums =]

thanks guys, not lookin at going for a 64 bit os in the near future. The monitor i'm using will be a standard 17" Hyundai Imagequest Q770. Old school gaming CRT :)

Also, any particular reason for going with slower memory? Ideally i dont want to go mad on the over clocking to start with so want the best base system i can get for the money....

It's not the case that the P35C_DS3R is a bad motherboard, it's actually very good and great for overclocking. It just appears that a lot of people seem to have issues with it sometimes when putting in certain types of memory, and there's also rumours that it overvolts the RAM by default.

If you'd prefer to be safe, get an Abit board Ben M suggested, as I hear little to no problems occuring when people use those boards

Thanks for all the help guys, gonna go for the abit IP35 and 2gig of GeIL pc2 6400 RAM and the corsair 520w HX PSU as suggested above.

Merry Christmas :D

I think that's a wise choice. You've already said that you are not going mad with overclocking so the PC2-6400 wil suffice with still enough headroom for some decent overclocking and you should get that CPU to 3.2GHz or 3.4GHz with out any problems. With that in mind, you might want to consider a decent cooler.

The Artic Cooling Freezer 7 pro is a superb choice for overclocking and is a bargain for under £18. The Tuniq Tower is also a good cooler for higher clock speeds on air but is double the cost.

I'd echo what has been said above, and seriously consider a tuniq tower if you want to cool your quad core chip suitably. Enjoy your build, and let us know how it goes :)
