Seems like ages since I had a new PC ... now all up and running

Is there any BIOS settings etc. I need to change straight away (ie so PCI-E is running at 16x etc.) RAM timings etc?

Just need to know where to start :p

Thanks in advance

Edit : Also for some reason the app that came with the board is reading CPU temp @ 12-14C , surely this is wrong?

Can you change which sensor the cpu reading uses? 12-14c sounds like ambient case temp to me.

As long as you follow the DS3/4 Guide I imagine you'll be fine. Made things so ultra easy when I did it, 3.1ghz rock solid on stock voltage thanks to that! (Havn't even tried to go further due to RAM):p

TAT + Coretemp for temperature monitering!

Thanks but Intel TAT tells me only administrator can run (my username is the only one, and an administrator)

Coretemp gives me error "Driver failed to load"

Yup :p

Managed to get TAT working

Followed the DS3 guide - 1.45V 290 x 7 - Idle @ 45 and as soon as I click workload 100% temps jump to 65-70c within a few seconds

You may not need that high voltage, I'm on 1.280v at 3.1 (430x7).

70 is a little too high, try and keep max 60-65, but that said, no normal program will tax the CPU as much, so you could survive at that temperature, as long as it gets no hotter.

Still seems to hot I think ... even running all settings on stock gets to 60+ load

I've reseated heatsink etc. which hasn't made a difference , maybe I should tighten it a little more

What voltage is that on? As for temperatures, I get 50 TAT load on 1.28 volts with a Tuniq Tower, so you don't seem too far off.

Edit: That's in a hot room though, if I leave the windows open it drops to around 40-45

Have you checked for a concave CPU?

Could lap it, but that would mean voiding the warrenty.

Can always check if it's bad airflow in your case causing these temperatures by removing the side and retesting. I found that by changing the direction of 1 of my case fans I could drop ~10degrees off my CPU just thanks to better airflow.

Hmm ...

Those temps before were with the sides of the case off , going to check the CPU a bit later when I can be bothered to take it apart again :p

I'm going back to XP , Vista is annoying me already

Sorry to cross post, but Im interested in your laptop, a friend said you had one. Could you drop me an email if its still available to [email protected], i tried your icq number but its incorrect. I do not have access to classifieds but i have been a member a long time.
