Well first of all this is my first post so Hi All :) And my apologies in advance for constant nagging Q's :p

Ok...so im attempting my first pc build. Aiming it to be an all rounder and future proofed for a little while anywayz. Tbh I know the basics but am pretty much a n00b when it comes to building.

A few questions:

1) Do all the below components are compatible/work with each other?
2) Is there any obvious/cheap upgrades or changes i should make to the config iv got?
3) How many Watts PSU am i gonna need?
4) Is there anything below (other than a PSU ofc) that im missing

The buildup i have so far is:
- GigaByte 890GX motherboard
- AMD phenom II x6 black, 3.3ghz
- Corsair Vengance 3x4gb 1600 (i know 12gb is a little much but im dead set)
- 2gb XFX HD6970 gpu
- (plus hard drive, optical drive, case and a cpu fan of course)

Answers to any one of the above q's or any ideas/advice in general would be much appriciated :)

oh and ps im hearing talk from some an "anti-static wrist band" might be needed when building.....true or outdated?

the ram needs to be dual channel like this.
you'd be better getting a 6950 and flashing the bios to a 6970.
this would be a good psu.
oh and you need a case.
how much are you willing to spend?

what is the pc for and how much are you wanting to spend?.
For psu i would say this as it a nice stong psu and SLI/xfire ready!.
GFX i would drop down to this
i know you said you dead set on 12gb of ram but that is a over kill i would go for this

always handy to have a lappy connected to t'internet to be sure, have a few usefull pages bookmarked etc.
I find the fiddliest bit the front panel and usb wires but most good cases come with blocks for them anyway now.
Always keep reffering to the motherboard manual (Gigabyte is a good choice)

I think my last mistake was on completing the build I set to boot from CD and booted and it never worked, turned out I'd forgot to connect the sata power to blu-ray drive lol, always the simple things. Had me stumped for a bit too :P

Go for a sandybridge i5-2500k and a cheap p67 bord it should come in at the same price and performance wise is superior in basically everything :)

Thaaanks vry vry much for replies all.

Oh my gosh!!! The RAM i chose wasnt dual channel!! Thank you Thank you! Kizoo for pointing that out - would felt like a right idiot finding it out after i bought it. And miiiiiiiiight go down to 8gb, just have 12 so stuck in my head now :p

6950 over 6970 then or anyone disagree?

PC is aiming to be 'All purpose' - i know that dont help at all though....hoping itl handle HD video & Editing and pack a decent punch at gaming. Looking to spend up to £1100. Any other suggestions (amd based) will be greatly appreciated.

You my friend.....are the man. Will be taking most of them suggestions on board.

Final (N00bish) Question......you know the internal wiring....harddrive/motherboard/psu etc.....is this all included or does it need to be bought seperatley?
Im assuming the external wiring (power supply to plug socket) needs to be bought on its own?
Oh and this is my first HD PC....the screen to PC wire do we use a HDMI wire i guess?

Lol...so much for 'final question' :p

Cheers all

All of the internal wires come with the components, the power cable comes with the psu and if you need a hdmi cable then get this one.

Final (no really) question.....Providing i get the above list (with or without modifications), plus the HDMI. Other than Operating sys, toolkit and monitor Is there anything else at all that i will need, like anything at all? Or will that be sufficient to build and use straight away?

Once again, thanks :)

The only thing that I would change from the above list is the PSU, which I wouldn't trust for crossfire. I forget the power consumption exact figures, but something like a corsair hx850 would be perfect or maybe a hx650.

Only a mouse and keyboard :)

If you need any help just ask.
