new build, best gpu ?

So im making a new rig next week and i need to know what the best current gpu is *gaming, encoding etc...* id prefer ATI but Nvidia is ok too, thanks as usual

Well the fastest single gpu is obviously the GTX 580.

But until we know your budget, nobody can really recommend anything

Well i have 600 left over after buying all my other bits and bobs, im not bothered if its duel gpu or single gpu as long as i dont have to Crossfire or do SLI.

You can't go wrong with a nvidia GTX570, or AMD 6950. For me these cards stand out as they offer a good bang for buck in comparison to their faster brothers (GTX580 and HD6970 respectively) . I would buy one of these cards and then upgrade in the future to a newer single card with the rest of your money. I assume your running a single monitor?

Also GTX560 is coming out in January 25th according to Bit-tech.

Radeon 5970 is the fastest video card atm but having said that, it's EOL and overpriced, unless you want to have a look for a used one (should be able to grab one for £250 ish).
