Hi,

I last built a PC 15 years ago and have been using Mac laptops exclusively since.

I ordered the following

1. 9800X3D
2. Gigabyte Aorus elite b850m wifi 6e matx
3. Kingsont fury 32GB DDR5 6000 ram x2.
4. Lian Li 1000RS PSU
5. Lian Li A3 case
6. Gigabyte 5070 Ti GFX
7. 2GB M2 SSD

First time I pressed the on switch on the PSU but not on the PC case I had the DRAM LED on and it was red, I realised after some searching around I had the RAM sticks in A1 and A2 when they should be in A2 and B2. I turned off the PSU and corrected the RAM placement and then turned it back on and the DRAM light was not on.

I then pressed the power button and nothing happened, no lights turn on, CPU fans are not turning, PSU fans is not turning (I later found out the PSU fan won't kick in until there is more than 250 watts of load).

I then use a screw driver to turn on the PC without needing to use the power button on the case, this also doesn't work.

In my process to eliminate I disconnect everything but keep the following:

1. 24 pin PSU
2. 8 pin CPU
3. 1x RAM stick in A2
4. SSD still connected on M2
5. CPU still in with cooler.

And then try turning it on again using the screw driver trick and still nothing.

To eliminate the PSU I used the paper clip method and a multi meter and I can register the correct volts on the 24 pin mobo connector for 3v and 12v.

According to chatgpt you aren't guaranteed the PSU is not at fault even when checking with a multi meter.

What do you guys think is the problem? No CPU fans on, no LED lights turn on on the mobo, no beeps from the mobo and PSU fan doesn't turn but that seems to be normal nowadays.

I would check the motherboard CPU socket for bent pins if all looks good I would take the motherboard out of the case to eliminate a short. Test it on the motherboard box with just the CPU and one stick of memory using the onboard graphics and PSU connected.

Start it with a screwdriver.

I took a picture of the motherboard socket and it does look like there are bent pins. I remember when I got the motherboard it seemed like the box has been opened before :/.

I have a picture here https://ibb.co/pvkX6Pw6.

@mickyflinn makes a good call but I would first check that the power cables are fully plugged in at the PSU end. Next, test the CMOS battery - even brand new ones can be duds. After checking the CPU socket I suggest building the PC outside the case.

Yes, left middle. Unless it's dirt. Also some of the pins top left don't look quite right, as if they've been bent back. RMA it. Go nuclear on them and ask them why they sent you an item that had already been returned.

That damage looks correctable but this is a brand new build so why risk it?

Sure! I got a feeling I will back in this forum again whilst building this PC. I have been away so long my account starts at 0 posts after I reset my account password.
