Hi all! Recently upgraded my rig but the performance is not really on par with similair setups, hopefully someone can kindly advise.

My specs:
  • Ryzen 3600XT, stock
  • Aorus Elite, upgraded to F30 bios
  • 32GB Corsair DDR4 3200 ram, XMP profile on
  • 1TB nVME
  • ASUS PG279Q 27” 144Hz Gsync monitor. Gsync turned on
  • MSI RTX3090 Gaming X Trio
  • Liquid cooling CPU AIO 480mm cooler

Timespy score is around 17300 and Port Royal around 14100. I tried some overclocking from guides I’ve found online but it either crash or made the score worse.

Cyperpunk on 1440p mostly Ultra/Psycho, film grain, chromatic etc off I get max 75fps. Sometimes dropping to 45-50fps in busy rates.

Perhaps I should consider overclocking the CPU and GPU? I’ve got MSI Afterburner but not too sure what to do.

Best Port Royal score :

Your CPU and GPU are somewhat mismatched. In Cyberpunk what is your CPU usage like?

Sorry, not sure what you meant by mismatched? I realise there are better CPUs out there but for my budget and usage (I also do some rendering) this is the best I can get.
Haven't really checked my CPU usage, need to figure out how to get the overlay and report back.

Yoour gpu scores are fine for a stock setting 3090, your Cpu could probably do with a tweak.
They are up to patch 1.05 with some optimisations for AMD cpus on Cyberpunk now, but you will have to ask the other forum members as I have no experience in AMD cpus.

Yes, I am not really good at overclocking. I usually follow guides as there are way too many settings which I have no clue about.
From most forum posts it seems to suggest my setup should be getting at least 19k Timespy scores and 90fps in Cyberpunk, hence my post.

You can run MSI Afterburner to log usage in the background or display it on screen.

You have a last generation mid-range CPU paired with a completely new top end enthusiast GPU.

Yes, I was planning for 5900X but can't get hold of one and it's more expensive, perhaps next year.
Thanks for the tip on MSI Afterburner, I will have a look.

If you Google Digital Foundry Cyberpunk 2077 settings, they have a video for "optimized settings for Cyberpunk" There should be no need to Overclock your cpu unless you want to do benchmarking.
Thanks I will have a look.
I've just upgrade from i7-6700K, MSI GTX1080 so was expecting to notice more in terms of performance.

edit: Found the summarised version below. Surprised that the recommendation is to turn off RT Shadows and RT Lighting. Suppose worth giving it a shot.

Your fps for cyberpunk at 1440p is about right, maybe slightly under as i get around 77-80 fps in open areas and around 45-55fps in very crowded areas on a 1440p ultrawide. Settings all ultra/psycho with dlss on Quality, check your gpu usage, it should be 99% maxed out.

My timespy score:
Score 19002, GPU 3090 @2220/5200, GFX Score 21265, CPU Score 11856, CPU 9900KF @5.1

Port Royal score with old cpu:
Score 14039, GPU 3090 @2040/5276, Graphics Score 14039, CPU 9600KF @5.1

Thanks, I can never hit 19k in TimeSpy and your old CPU Port Royal is same score as my current setup. I wonder if I am missing anything here.

I currently use Steam overlay for FPS, but as suggested I will try to use Afterburner overlay to get more information.

Ok, I'm just chilling with Judy (Cyberpunk 2077) in the car and below is the stats from Afterburner:

GPU : 68%
GPU Temp : 78-80C (dropped quickly to 45C after I quit the game according to GPUZ)
GPU RAM : 8GB
CPU : 38% @ 4.2Ghz 58C
RAM : 12GB
53 FPS

Perhaps my GPU should be working harder or am I limited by temps?

Well mine is running with no fan and it's at 36C, have you taken the side of the case off and played for a while to see if it plays any better?
The Trio has a nice cooler and block on it, I would be expecting temps to peak 80C after hours of gaming and with shooting etc action

I'm little suspicious of the MSI output, as I've played Black Ops for hours and according to the built in counters my GPU temp peaked at 80C.
I will keep an eye on things.
To be honest the game runs smoothly enough, it's just the numbers that doesn't look/feel right.
