Well i waited and decided not to get finance on anything. Glad i didnt really. :rolleyes:

Ill be buying around the middle of next month i would imagine.

Does the following look okay? Ill be bumping the i5 750 up to 3.8GHz ish and clocking the ram to 2000ish if i can. My friend has the same motherboard and processor and has done the same. I just want to future proof the system for a few years if possible. I have £1200 ish to ***** out on really.

Ill be buying a new monitor in the future as i can only go up to 1680x on my current one, i am aware that a 5770 will perform well on the current 1680 rez i have but if ive got the 5870 atleast its there to support higher resolutions.

Edit. You sure you want four 2gig memory sticks? Its known to limit overclocking and you have no room for more in the future, put two 4gig sticks in.

Do you have a 64bit operating system for 8gigs of ram?

Yes i have a copy of Windows 7 64bit, i already have 4Gb of DDR2 1066 (4 sticks). Well i figured that 4GB sticks would cost a large sum of money, and didnt see a problem with having 4x2GB sticks.

I could also upgrade the ram in a year or 2 to make room for more, surely 8GB will be enough for the next year or 2 ?

8gigs of ram will last for longer than two years.

8GB of RAM will limit your overclocking headroom (both for the RAM and CPU). This is because the memory controller is on the CPU, and when you use all 4 RAM slots it puts much more stress on the memory controller. You may find you need to reduce the memory speed to get it stable.

Unless you are doing stuff that will utilise more than 4GB of RAM (like running VMs or manipulating RAW image files) then 8GB isn't necessary and will limit your system in other areas. I suggest getting 4GB (2x2GB) now and if you feel you need more in the future then hopefully 4GB sticks will have become mainstream.

That motherboard has loads of features, however you can get the Gigabyte UD5 for £50 less.

The Titan fenrir cooler sold at OCUK does not support s1156 CPUs unfortunately. This cooler is cooler is a similar price, but doesn't cool quite as well. If you do change the motherboard, perhaps you could use some of the money to get an even better cooler like a Megahalems (+fan).

If I was you, I'd go for the retail version of the CPU for an extra £4 to get 2 years more warranty with intel (and an awesome sticker).

Finally, as to which RAM to go for - I would get this stuff. Its just as fast, lower latency and cheaper.
