Hey guys,

Pretty stumpted here, I've been building PC's for the best part of 10 years but this has really stumpted me.

Just upgraded to:
Asrock Z77 ITX
i5 3570k
8GB Geil Black Dragon
Bitfenix Prodigy

All has gone smoothly and I'm up and running in the BIOS. Can see my SSD's (Vertex 2E x2) in there dectected fine. I setup RAID and went into the Windows 7 setup before anything else, got to the bit where it asks me for extra drivers for RAID. Downloaded the latest ones on the Asrock website but the Windows 7 setup fails to see either SSD.

Thought this was weird so I changed back to normal AHCI mode to install without the RAID setup, having exactly the same problem. Checked diskpart within the Windows 7 setup and can see both SSD's. Am I missing some UEFI specific option? (It's the first time I've had a UEFI BIOS)

Even tried switching to IDE mode and it still doesn't detect in the Windows 7 setup.

Any help greatly appreciated, eager to try my new system!

Forgot to mention I deleted the RAID array before trying ACHI/IDE mode.

Just re-enabled RAID and created the array again. Windows 7 does the same thing as before and tells me there is no devices found and to supply a driver. Supplying the driver doesn't work but running diskpart and using the 'list disk' command I can see the full sized RAID volume.

Any idea's?

Is the motherboard the Z77E-ITX?

How are you installing Windows, DVD, USB drive?

Yupp Z77E-ITX, installing from USB drive. Nothing wrong with the installation media as I've just an hour ago installed my laptop from it successfully. Do I need to do any sort of prep work to the array before installing Windows on it?

RAID is bootable and Windows is the Ultimate 64bit version (I've used it multiple times and within the last couple of hours so media is fine.)

Here is my RAID setup screen:

Here is the error I'm getting:

Reading it properly it seems to be asking for some CD/DVD drive device driver, I don't have one installed. Nor have I done for the last 3 years!

Do you have a CD/DVD drive connected somewhere as that seems to be the driver it's looking for?

If you have one connected then disconnect it for now.

Also try a different USB port for your memory stick.

Try a USB 2.0 one if it's plugged into USB 3.0.

No external drive (I use my Mr's computer if I want a file from CD). I've also tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports, must have seen the Windows 7 setup 50 times tonight! *Sigh* Just wanted to play with my new toy!

I assume you've tried just clicking cancel see what happens then?

I end up on the window behind it with the 'Next' button greyed out. Just prepping another bootable USB Windows 7 now to see if it's that, I don't see how it would have broken in the last hour though.

I guess that's my next step after trying new USB installation. It does mention updated RAID ROM, but I don't see why that would stop me seeing the drives in AHCI/IDE mode.

You can get that message if your MBR is missing from the ssd. I got the same message when trying to install to a 60gb ssd. I used Easus Partition manager to make the ssd active. Then installed windows without any problems.

I've just done this via diskpart and still getting the same error. Can I boot Easus from USB? :EDIT: Apparently not, any other idea's?

You've got no other drives of any type plugged in?

Disconnect anything you don't need such as memory card readers etc.

If it keeps coming back to wanting a CD/DVD driver Windows is picking something up as that even if it isn't.

Nothing else just 2x Vertex 2E's 120GB. Keyboard/Mouse/USB Windows 7 and that's it! No printers/External devices. I really don't get it, seems a decent amount of people are having the issue but it's solved with a fresh copy of Windows burned. I'm just downloading a Windows 7 SP1 (My original ISO wasn't SP1) so I'll see how that goes.

Any other idea's in the mean time?

Fresh copy is doing the same, tried booting it from my laptop and the setup works fine! Tried going back to IDE/AHCI mode again (deleting array) and it's still not working. Pretty fed up now, don't see why it won't work...:(

You'd never guess the issue...I guess the onboard USB 2.0's have some weird controller, plugged the USB stick into an external USB hub and it's working fine now. Say it with me...What the hell?

Cheers for your help guys :)
