Hi time for my new build, passing my current rig to my son.

I am looking help to check over, change if need be and finalize before ordering.

The new set-up will be used mostly for gaming, bf4/hardline gtav and a few other aaa titles up and coming.

I am looking to be gaming on a AOC 3440x1440 monitor and will probably swap out the 290 for one of the new offerings from AMD when they arrive.

This motherboard has a 5yr warranty and an exchange within 3yrs to a newer board - http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18631511

Thanks stulid for the quick reply, going to go with the second basket you suggested.

A couple of quick questions before pressing the buy button as it has been a few years since I last built a rig.
Will the processor come pre-installed or will I need paste? and do you know if I will have everything I need regarding cabling so as to get up and running straight away?

Paste comes either pre-applied to the coolers or comes in a little syringe to apply a bit yourself.

Everything is included to get you going.

Do you have an OS? notice that there are no external drive bays on the NZXT case so you have to install via USB or maybe hang a dvd drive out of the side and the remove it afterwards.

To be honest I think the 290X is a better deal.

Sorry, when I first looked at your reply there were only two baskets showing.

The one I am going to go for would be the 290X which is third on your list.

I have 2 dvd drives in my current set-up and will use one from here in the Antec p100, I also have win 8.1.

Only thing I have changed is the 2tb drive to 3tb as I am the local storage for all my familys photos, videos and movies.

Regarding the overclocked bundles, would the memory timings be changed regarding the overclock?

I have overclocked my i5 750 but have no experience with memory and wonder if I would be best paying extra for the pre-overclocked bundles.

Ok,

The bundle of CPU+board is not overclocked, it is just a saving of money by buying both items together.

Overclocking yourself is not hard at all and I can show you how to get it to run at 4.4-4.5GHz on all cores and not just Turbo upto 4.4GHz when a single core is being used.

To get the RAM up to it's rated speed you enter the advanced memory section and load the XMP profile, then save+exit, that is it.

You can adjust the CPU speed independently of the RAM.

Also make sure the board has the latest BIOS flashed onto it, the early BIOSes used a touch too much Vcore at stock so this had a negative effect on temperatures. Flashing is easy via a USB stick and the built-in QFlash found within the BIOS>

Thanks stulid for your time and help, its very much appreciated.

If you don't mind, it would be great if you could help me when I get up and running with the BIOS, overclocking and memory.

The first thing to do is make sure the latest BIOS is on the board.

Downlaod the BIOS file.

Extract it.

You then have three files, one of which is the actual BIOS at around 8MB in size.

place it onto a USB stick.

Enter the BIOS, click on Qflash in the top right corner.

Choose update from drive and it will list the USB stick, select it.

Highlight the BIOS file and click on go, it flashes the BIOS, restarts once after completion, then you can set the RAM XMP and start overclocking etc.

Hey stulid, (also sent to trust) I have got my rig up and running, very pleased with the performance over my old set-up.

Motherboard bios installed is f6, there is a newer f7k tho it is beta so didn't install it, should I?

Cpu idle 24 and load 59 (bf4 ultra 1920x1200)

Gpu was high 95 with 100% fan so added another front case fan, max now 74 but staying around 65/68 (bf4)

Cheers, I've updated the bios (took me a while to find my smaller usb fat32).

How would I go about setting the RAM XMP? Hope you don't mind me pestering you

Thanks, thats how I like things lol nice and simple.

Regarding the cpu, do you think that there is much headroom with my temps? Highest I've seen is 60c when Playing bf4.

You can overclock a bit, maybe take it too 4.5Ghz on all cores, adjust the Turbo values to all 45X.

Check stability and temps.

You may want to set loadline calibration to Turbo/extreme.

Just before I bench, does this look right?

I set the loadline calibration to Turbo.

Ok,

Get CPU-Z and watch the core speed.

It should drop to 800Mhz at idle ( give it a few seconds to settle as its not an instant drop) and should stay at 4.5 when running a test.
