Well, its that time again - sitting here thinking: "Hmm, now what can I get for less then £1000?" so of course the first thought to mind was to spec a new machine.

I am impressed, but I put it to the forums to point out any obvious flaws I have most likely missed.

Spec:
  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66Mhz
  • Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 P45 Socket 775
  • EVGA 9800GT 1GB DDR3
  • 8GB Geil Black Dragon 800MHz DDR2
  • Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA
  • CoolerMaster 1000W
  • Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred
  • LG GH22NS40 22x DVDRW

...so any thoughts?

I would drop the cpu to a Q6600 or an E8XXX series cpu.
Change the GPU to 4850 or 4870 or what you save on the psu look at the 280 gpu.
You can get away with a 520w or 620w psu.

k that psu is total overkill a 500w will do fine for that build even with a load of hdd's

also that gfx is old tech you really want a 9800gtx+ or a 4850 also what res u planning on running.

but with 1k I would go for an i7 build

Cheers guys. Though I'm still chopping and changing the spec =P

Will probably replace the Q6700 for a Q8200. Skip the PSU for the 650W I currently have and probably keep my current GPU for now too...

Spec Revision as follows:

  • Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz (1333FSB)
  • Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 P45 Socket 775
  • 8GB Geil Black Dragon 800MHz DDR2
  • Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB SATA
  • LG GH22NS40 22x DVDRW
  • Antec 1200 Twelve Hundred

With the following from my current spec:

  • 2x 320GB SATA HDD
  • Creative XtremeMusic
  • Seasonic 650W PSU
  • BFG Geforce 7950

With the money left over I can consider going from a 19" monitor to a 24"

Sound like an improvement?

I am tempted with an i7 build, but I think I get a lot more for my money this way...

Its not really for hardcore gaming, more of a mix of gaming, general use and some graphics design/photos.
