Hi, I am relatively new to building and was wondering if anyone can give me some feedback with a build for a 5080/5090 (I will wait for benchmarks to make a choice)

CPU - 9800X3D

CPU Cooler - Phantom Spirit 120 SE

Motherboard - Asrock X870 Riptide

RAM - Corsair Vengeance Grey 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30

SSD for Windows - Samsung 990 Pro 1TB

SSD for storage - Samsung 990 Pro 4TB

Case - Montech King 95 Pro

PSU - NZXT C1200W ATX 3.1

3 Extra case fans - Montech AX120 RGB

I believe everything is compatible with either GPU, but I would be really grateful for a second opinion before I start making purchases in the next 1-2 weeks

Some choices I made:
  • SSDs do not come with a heatsink because the motherboard ones will be used
  • The 3 extra fans will be at the top of the case as exhausts. They will be connected to the 10 fan case hub, which should have 3 free connections out of the box
  • The RAM is not the RGB variant due to the lack of clearance with the Phantom Spirit
Please let me know if there are any potential problems or improvements to be made, thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome.

The memory you've chosen is c36 not c30

Could save some money on m2 drives these are dram drives also.

The case had plenty of clearance for a 5090 so your good there.

Would be tempted to get a 360mm aio watercooler and fit at the top of the case to give a cleaner look then a bulky air cooler. Top clearance is 60mm .

Sorry my bad was meant to post a CL30 vengeance model

Would the Team Group SSDs be as reliable as the Samsungs, I don’t mind paying more if there is a greater chance for them to have a longer lifespan, would like this build to last 5+ years

The AIO makes a lot of sense but I am a bit wary of it leaking down the line, it would be nice to not have to think about that

There good but if you want the best then go for the Samsungs and if you happy with air cooler then fine i was just giving you options.

Enjoy.

Nothing that special about the 990 pro. has a 5yrs warranty same as the others...warranty is up to 600 TBW endurance, with max endurance of 1100TBW (so if you go over 600tbw, you're no longer covered by warranty)

for a guide, cyberpunk 2077 is roughly 90GB..so if you downloaded that to your drive, deleted it and downloaded the next day, you could continue doing it every day for just over 18years before you void the warranty

other drives to consider that max out pcie4 (so anything close to 7300/7400 read speed is max)

these are all £69.95
WD SN7100...new drive on preorder replacing the sn770, read/write 7250/6900, 5year warranty, 600 tbw
kingston Fury renegade, 7300/6000, 5ys, 1000tbw
lexar nm790, 7400/6500, 5ys, 1000tbw

£72.95
crucial T500 7300/6800, 5ys, 600tbw

£79.99
Firecuda 530R 7400/7000 5ys warranty, 3 year data recovery, 1100tbw
WD SN850X 7300/6300 5ys, 600tbw

of course, the bigger the drive, the better the endurance, and as a drive fills up it slows down..also consider better price per tb with 2tb drtive
eg, firecuda 530 2tb drive has a 2400tbw endurance

peronally I've got a sn850 in my am4 rig(4years old now) and a sn850X on pc using here)..guessing i use it every day, have a few games on it etc. it's a 2tb drive, but crystaldiscinfo says I've read 9598GB and written 7658gb, and drive health is 100%..so with a 1200tbw endurance, at the speed I'm going(if i ass the read/write together i've used 17.2tb in 2 years...which means i'll reach the drive endurance limit in 139years from now

just to say most drives are pretty reliable now, and none as expensive as the sammy..at the time the sn850x actually beat the sammy for gaming performance, but diff drives have diff strengths/weaknesses..all the above are fast though (though haven't read reviews on the 7100 yet, but sn770 is a good drive, so this being the replacement should be better)
