Im starting another build, but haven't built a new pc for a while. Just want to see if any one has any suggestions on the components. Heres what im thinking of;

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, Yorkfield Core, 2.66 GHz, 1333MHz,
4GB (2x2GB) Corsair TwinX DDR2 PC2-8500 (1066),
Asus P5K3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP, or Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45
650W Be Quiet Dark Power PRO BN073 Modular PSU,
512MB EVGA 9800 GTX Super SC,
Samsung spinpoint HDD (750Gb) x2,
XP Pro 32-bit SP3, or Vista 64-bit
Possibley watercooled?
...all housed in a Coolermaster COSMOS-S case.

I haven't decided a budget yet Think im just going to get the best components i can, with out going overboard (dont know where to draw the line there). I don't mind paying upto and including £200 for the Mobo. Already decided to get the Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450, Yorkfield Core (£220). Just wondered mainley what the best RAM and Mobo is to complement the Q9450 CPU? And which graphics card to get now (GTX 260)?

And will all this hardwear work together, or does anyone have any suggestions of different components/changes??

Any help/advice much appreciated!

Welcome to the forums, the basic specification looks fine although be careful with the motherboard as I think your first selection requires DDR3 Ram and you've got DDR2 there.

Going for the pre-overclocked graphics cards is normally a bit of a waste of money in that most standard graphics cards will reach the same sort of speeds but of course you don't get the guarantee. And yes you might be better off with one of the newer offerings from Nvidia.

Since you are going for 4gb of Ram and a modern PC I'd probably just go with Vista 64bit, there doesn't seem to be much point in going for 32bit XP unless you've got a specific reason.

The Ram will be fine but if you aren't going to be overclocking then changing to PC6400 would save you some cash and still allow a bit of an overclock.

Sounds good. But the Mobo, (Asus P5K3 Deluxe/WiFi-AP, or Asus P5Q Deluxe Intel P45), the Asus P5K3 Deluxe - I meant the P35 version. Thats DDR2 + DDR3 i think? But think im going to go for the P5Q Deluxe (P45). Thats DDR2 + DDR3. But on that note, is it worth getting 2gb of DDR3 or 4gb of DDR2?

Thanks again for the help/advice!

I wouldn't get a combo motherboard personally, they seem to be a bit of a "jack of all trades, master of none" sort of thing especially as you can't use all the Ram together, it is either DDR2 or DDR3.

I've not seen any compelling advantages for DDR3 yet to suggest it is currently worth the rather hefty premium (although it will replace DDR2 in time) so I'd just go with 4gb of DDR2, enjoy the benefits of 4gb of Ram at the moment and the fact that it is quite a bit cheaper gigabyte for gigabyte.

Depending on when you're planning on getting your computer you might want to wait for the Q9550 to drop to the price of the Q9450 which will be left to fade away... Personally I'm aiming for an early september build and with a change in price expected for Q3 2008 it looks like it's worth the wait :)

Lemme see if I can find the table someone posted with the prices...
