just built new setup, checked with coretemps and see that temps are 10c different.
idle core 1 = 39c core 2 = 29c
load running orthos for an hour core 1 = 47c core 2 = 37c

is this normal? or should i try to reseat the heatsink.

cpu: e8400
heatsink:ultra 120 extreme with noctua vortex running full speed.

to me these temps seem a little high even at idle or is this just normal?

thanks ali

Use Real Temp to check for a stuck sensor.

If it passes then you'll have to reseat the cooler usind minimal paste to ensure that you haven't botched its installation. Tho I'd do that anyway as 47c is too high.

Could also be the base of the TRUE causing the temp difference, as theyre known to be pretty uneven.

as its new cpu and hatsink would you reccomend lapping them both ?
or see how it goes for now!

ok just ran test on real temps,
says : core1- 0 movement
core2- 1 movement

i presume that this is not good and need to reseat the heatsink, maybe apply a little less paste too.

You dont need much paste at all, take a quick look online and you'll find some pics of how much you need to apply...

I've lapped my 8500 and TRUE, it takes ages to lap a true, especially the black ones... Keep going till all you can see is copper...

ok so ive just taken out cpu and cleaned it up and cleaned heatsink, reapplied paste but thinner.
not gonna lap it yet gonna see how things go.

Ive also lapped my q6600 and TRUE combo, but it was just so that i could see if it would help push my chip to 3.8ghz, always best to try reseating and reapplying thermal paste before getting out the sand paper:)

ok after all that its still at around 10c difference, and real temps still shows sensors are not sensing, core 1= 0 core2= 5. so somthing going but i aint got a clue how to solve it.
