Dear All,

I am looking to build a PC using the component’s below, some of which are from my current computer) and I was wondering if you could take a look and offer any guidance:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 930 2.80GHz
  • CPU Cooler: Thermalright Venomous X CPU Cooler
  • CPU Cooler Fan: Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fan - 3/4 Pin
  • Motherboard: Asus P6X58D-E Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard
  • Memory: Corsair XMS3 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 12800C9 (1600MHz) Tri-Channel
  • Graphics: Sapphire Radeon HD 5970 (ALREADY OWN)
  • Internal Hard Drive 1: Western Digital VelociRaptor 600GB (SSD too expensive for me at the moment - may upgrade in a year or so)
  • Optical Drive: Sony Optiarc AD-7241S 24x DVD±RW SATA Lightscribe
  • Case: Coolermaster HAF X Gaming Tower Case – Black
  • Power Supply: Corsair VX 750W Power Supply (ALREADY OWN)
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit (OEM)
  • Monitor: Samsung P2270 21.5 inch LCD Monitor 1000:1 250cd/m2 1920 x 1080 2ms DVI (Black) – will be used with the work computer, but interested in your experiences with it.
  • Keyboard & Mouse: Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave Pro with MX1100 Cordless Laser Mouse

With the motherboard it states that it *supports* USB3, but others state they are fully USB3 compliant - is there a difference and if so, will it be noticed at all?

The computer I currently have is being fitted with low power equivalent’s and will be used as a work computer.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Neil

Sounds like a good build, I wouldn't bother with the VelociRaptor though, they're pretty noisy and not that much faster than the best 7200RPM drives like the WD 1TB Black or the Samsung F3.

Not sure on the USB thing, I'd assume 'supports USB3' would be fine.

Thanks Redmint!

When it comes to hitting that order button, I will have probably included a SSD and then go and sell my house ;)

Now I just wish there was a boat load of great games to push the 5970.
