hello,

just built a new system and i THINK i have everything in the right place! powering on the system, everything powers up ok, fans spin, gpu lights up and fans spin in that too, mobo looks ok. however, it completely fails to get anywhere near the BIOS. ALTHOUGH, randomly twice it's got to the GIGABYTE splash screen but then powers itself off before i can do anything.

noticed a lack of a beep on power on too which seems a little worrying? i've got the HD audio plugged into the motherboard. AC'97 is left unplugged, however.

please help guys. i've got a stressed girlfriend here and i'm only here for one night! :D

cheers.

for no reason it just managed to boot to the splash screen three times in a row but each time we had no response from the USB wired keyboard plugged into the back.

it then powered itself off and restarted itself.

What are the system specs?

You wont here a post beep unless you installed the BIOS speaker.

couple of things to try, test with only one memory stick and try a CMOS reset.

will try both. to do a cmos reset, i have to take out the battery and replace it, correct?

Correct or short the Clear CMOS pins on the board, the manual will show location of the pins to short.

Edit: You might need a BIOS update to get the chip to work, can you see what Rev board your using (should be top left with the cpu socket on the right).

5 mins odd with power off, but see my reply above and try the CLR CMOS jumpers which is instant.

You know why its not booting up? You need a sandybridge CPU so that you can update to the latest BIOS to support your ivybridge CPU,then your 3570k chip will work

A cheap Pentium g620 will work to flash the bios with

Hmm stourbridge,ur not far away

is there not a way of doing this without forking out any more cash? seems a strange way of doing it, however plausible a solution it may be.

i just don't understand the utter randomness of it managing to boot to the splash screen. and why won't the wired keyboard work?

just a little confused, really.

It has an older BIOS on it,one that doesn't support the newer ivybridge chip, its a catch 22 you need sandy CPU to flash to latest BIOS to get your ivy CPU to work

a little disappointed that the guy who specc'd the build for me didn't flag this up but i guess he wasn't to know. it's not his prerogative to go researching for me i guess!

the mobo is rev 2.0.

is there really no way of flashing without putting in a sandybridge cpu?

ah that's a shame.

just noticed that on the overclockers store page for the product, a reviewer said that they used the q-flash utility to update the bios. i'm guessing that he must have put in a different cpu to get to that point?

yes you need older gen cpu to access bios and use qflash, once done remove cpu and put in newer ivybridge and it will work fine
